Under the commission to rethink the design codes of restaurants in general and create a space for the Asian food chain UDON in particular, the studio aimed to leverage a classic element of design, typically associated with homes, paradoxically infusing a sense of modernity into the project. This concept room is configured through the use of wooden Venetian blinds, creating a facade and flexible divisions. The features of these lattices allow achieving much with very little: rhythm, versatility, and a sharp connection between inside and outside.
To avoid turning it into a themed restaurant, the use of materials is limited to wood and textile, complemented by strategically concealed lighting, providing intimacy to the atmosphere. The layout is designed to cater to both individual diners and groups, which is why a large continuous bench is proposed as a practical solution for the versatility demanded by new dining spaces.
The overall scheme is completed with a bar, serving as a storage area, and a reserved area with nods to the popular Japanese tatami dining room. The red color in this last room is primarily intended to convey a sense of renewal and persuade the visitor that even with traditional elements, something very new can be created.
