Cashmere Pavilion | Atelier Meadow

For the Autumn Edition 2023 of Intertextile Shanghai, the world-renowned textile fair, Atelier Meadow designed a pavilion for Chinese cashmere brand Xingwu and Yetian.

As the founder of Atelier Meadow, Edoardo Nieri recalls, this project is very important to him as a nostalgic connection to his hometown, Prato in Italy. A city well-known for its textile production. Furthermore, due to its sentimental value, it brought back many memories of his childhood characterized by the sounds of the machines and the scent of bolts of fabric that have been embodied into the design approach.

For Intertextile 2023, Atelier Meadow designed a pavilion that aim to recreate the subtle beauty hidden inside of the poetry of the textile production. The pavilion is composed by a modular system that embrace the entire space defining the different areas. At the same time, the boundary between the outside and the inside is blurred by 100,000 meters of steel wire that allows visitor’s sight to penetrate the pavilion.

The use of steel wire plays an important role along the journey, as it represents the structural element that compose each fabric piece. The intriguing pattern created with steel wires, and inspired by the traditional textile looms, it blurred the scenes inside as a sort of abstraction of the image that may be seen through the lines. Developed not as merely form or object, the perimetral wall meant to act as a functional machine, where the hanging racks for product display and the lighting system are embedded and merged together to become an entirety.

The interior space had been developed to continue the theme of delicacy that rules the entire design process, where the selection of materials aim to distinguish the two brand areas. For the brand Xingwu, stone finish for the exterior and paint finish for the interior were applied for its conference rooms; while for the brand Yetian, wooden finish was applied for both the exterior and the interior of its conference rooms, where the verticals outside was designed to reflect the subtle lightness of the steel wires, while the usage of metal mesh to partially shield the interior of each meeng room have been pursuit to provide privacy and to create a connection with the pattern of fabric weave.

Furniture is another important aspect of this project. Atelier Meadow developed furniture and lightings for the pavilion as an extension of the concept of textile loom, without distinguishing the outside with the inside.

With this project, Atelier Meadow have been awarded as "China Young Architecture Firm 2023" by Archiposition, one of the most important research-based architectural and cultural institutions in China.

Per l'edizione autunnale 2023 di Intertextile Shanghai, la fiera tessile di fama mondiale, Atelier Meadow ha progettato un padiglione per il marchio cinese di cashmere Xingwu e Yetian.

Come ricorda il fondatore di Atelier Meadow, Edoardo Nieri, questo progetto è molto importante per lui in quanto legame nostalgico con la sua città natale, Prato in Italia. Città nota per la sua produzione tessile. Inoltre, per il suo valore sentimentale, ha riportato alla mente molti ricordi della sua infanzia caratterizzata dai suoni delle macchine e dal profumo delle pezze di tessuto che sono stati incorporati nell'approccio progettuale.

Per Intertextile 2023, Atelier Meadow ha progettato un padiglione che mira a ricreare la sottile bellezza nascosta nella poesia della produzione tessile. Il padiglione è composto da un sistema modulare che abbraccia l'intero spazio definendo le diverse aree. Allo stesso tempo, il confine tra l’esterno e l’interno è sfumato da 100.000 metri di filo d’acciaio che permettono alla vista del visitatore di penetrare nel padiglione.

L'uso del filo d'acciaio gioca un ruolo importante durante il percorso, poiché rappresenta l'elemento strutturale che compone ogni tessuto. L'intrigante motivo creato con fili d'acciaio, e ispirato ai tradizionali telai tessili, sfuma le scene dell'interno come una sorta di astrazione dell'immagine che può essere vista attraverso le linee. Sviluppata non come mera forma o oggetto, la parete perimetrale vuole fungere da macchina funzionale, dove gli scaffali per l'esposizione dei prodotti e il sistema di illuminazione sono unificati insieme per diventare un tutt'uno.

Lo spazio interno è stato sviluppato per continuare il tema della delicatezza che governa l'intero processo di progettazione, dove la selezione dei materiali mira a distinguere le due aree del marchio. Per il marchio Xingwu, per le sale conferenze sono state applicate finiture in pietra per l'esterno e verniciatura per gli interni; per Yetian, la finitura in legno è stata applicata sia all'esterno che all'interno delle sale conferenze, dove i listelli esterni sono stati progettati per riflettere la sottile leggerezza dei fili di acciaio, mentre l'utilizzo di una maglia metallica e' stato pensato per schermare parzialmente l'interno di ciascuna sala conferenze garantendone la privacy, e allo stesso tempo instaurando una connessione con il modello della trama del tessuto.

L'arredamento è un altro aspetto importante di questo progetto. Atelier Meadow ha sviluppato mobili e luci per il padiglione come un'estensione del concetto di telaio tessile, senza distinguere l'esterno dall'interno.

Con questo progetto, Atelier Meadow è stato premiato come "China Young Architecture Firm 2023" da Archiposition, una delle più importanti istituzioni architettoniche e culturali basate sulla ricerca in Cina.
