We were told that when resources are scarce, intensity compensates for high performance (because there seems to be a deep gap between ingeniousness and intelligence). Of course, we knew that any project is a reaction to its circumstances.

This is an apparently simple, stable and regular building that contains an unexpected and exaggerated interior. This is the world of innovation; a continuous, fluid and open space that conceptual and physically translates the creative processes of academic practice, that sequential development of formal research or the reversible and multiple dimension associated with informal knowledge. The building acknowledges the need for polarizing the innovation time in at least two moments: in a creative experience based on a social, collective and integrated realm, and another rather individual, intimate and solitary experience. The spatial structure of the building is based in these two clearly differentiated conditions. On the one hand side there is an open core that establishes a series of vertically interconnected halls, with a circular void that reduces its size upon ascension. On the other hand, private working spaces occupy the corners of every floor plan, in a quarter of a circle figure which centre pivots around every edge, growing inversely proportional to the central voids. Instead of the traditional system of pillars within a non differentiated and non hierarchical grid, this office plan also provides specific rooms for exhibitions, workshops and meetings, visual and acoustically controlled by the curved walls that work like opaque screens. The character and diversity of the resulting space somehow promotes the dynamics of a non categorized work (or with ever changing positions) between professors, students, researchers, entrepreneurs and the local communities.

Nos dicen: cuando los recursos son escasos, la intensidad compensa el funcionamiento (porque parece haber una profunda brecha entre ingenio e inteligencia). Bien sabíamos que cualquier proyecto es una reacción a sus circunstancias.

Este es un edificio aparentemente sencillo, estable y regular que contiene un interior exagerado e inesperado. Este es el mundo de la innovación; un espacio continuo, fluido y abierto que traduce conceptual y perceptualmente el propio proceso creativo de las prácticas académicas, del desarrollo secuencial de la investigación formal o de la dimensión reversible y múltiple del conocimiento informal. El edificio reconoce la necesidad de polarizar el tiempo de la innovación en al menos dos momentos: en una experiencia creativa basada en un ámbito social, colectivo e integrado y en otra experiencia más bien íntima, solitaria e individual. La estructura espacial del edificio se basa en estas dos condiciones claramente diferenciadas. Por un lado un centro abierto que establece una serie de halles interconectados verticalmente, con un vacío circular que reduce su tamaño mientras asciende. Por otro lado, unos espacios de trabajo privado que ocupan las esquinas de cada planta, en una figura de un cuarto de círculo cuyo centro pivota alrededor de cada arista, creciendo inversamente proporcional a los vacíos centrales. En vez del tradicional sistema de pilares en una retícula indiferenciada y sin jerarquías, esta planta de oficinas es a la vez un espacio específico para exposiciones, talleres y reuniones controladas visual y acústicamente, mediante los muros curvos que funcionan como biombos opacos. La diversidad y carácter del espacio resultante de algún modo promueve la dinámica de un trabajo sin categorías (o con unas posiciones siempre cambiantes) entre profesores, alumnos, investigadores, empresarios y las comunidades locales.
