Park Design & Fire Station Design La Mirada
This project entails a redesign of LA County Fire Station 49 and its surrounding area, aiming to enhance the civic presence of the fire station as a focal point. In traditional fire station design, spaces are typically compartmentalized. My approach seeks to dismantle this norm, fostering a new type of interaction among firefighters by eliminating walls and placing most areas on small terraces at varying heights.
For the master plan, I have retained the original programs, which include a residential community, city hall, library, lake park, and more. To underscore the fire station's role as a civic anchor, it is positioned at the convergence of three zones. The design incorporates two paths for fire trucks, which simultaneously delineate different zones of the site. Five sports fields are strategically located at the junctions of various districts, offering contrasting views. Additionally, a T-shaped promenade, originating from the fire station and traversing the central zone, activates more activities on the hardscape.
