Complementary Opposites
The project unfolds in Córdoba, on a nearly 45-degree sloping terrain with the sound of the river and views of the mountains and treetops. A house for living, working, and writing in an environment of solitude and tranquility that allows philosophical work. It is created with complementary opposites. While its lower part is heavy, the upper portion is lightweight. It barely rests on supports When open, it captures the views and welcomes the sun. It can also be firmly closed for introspection. It is a piece of architecture that adds value to the landscape. The project can be accessed from the roof, which does not exceed the highest point of the lot to avoid disrupting the views. It is gradually traversed until entering from the lower part through a contemplative journey. This approach enables access to the natural terrain. A clear geometry is defined with a retaining wall in relation to the mountain; a bridge extends and adds connection. The geometry is narrow like the footprints of a "goat". Similar to its steep slope, the program is stacked in multiple stories from its terrace to the ground. Seen from the outside, it is a single-material structure that becomes a massive piece emerging from the site. Reinforced concrete is the main material used for the structure, internal spaces, and for the relationship with the ground and the sky. Its walls have a rough finish capable of revealing the passage of time and imprinting the climate and tones of the location on the structure. Inside, the space has unique proportions and big changes in height. It includes big openings and complete closures to reveal or conceal the landscape. Wood is used, a warm material that contrasts the rugged exterior and releases its distinctive scent upon entry. The main area for living, dining, cooking, and waking up connects with the landscape at the height of the tree canopy. In contrast, an introverted mezzanine, with an open floor plan, is suspended over the entire void. It is illuminated from below, creating an environment for introspection. It offers a place for writing and reading,disconnected from the outside. Far from being a fragile construction it is a new piece of the mountain with formal synthesis and material simplicity. The proposal respects its context by resorting to basic, "handmade" technology, and few simple operations. The proposal does not alter the natural topography and suggests different types of spaces:interior and exterior, intimate or open. Meanwhile, air and water continue to run beneath the house.

Opuestos Complementarios

En Córdoba, en un terreno con casi 45o de pendiente, con el sonido del río y vistas hacia las sierras y las copas de los árboles; se desarrolla el proyecto. Una casa donde vivir, trabajar, escribir. Un entorno de soledad y tranquilidad que permita recuperar la capacidad de trabajo filosófico. En un juego de opuestos complementarios, apenas se apoya en patas. Mientras su cuerpo es pesado, su coronamiento ligero. Por momentos abierta, gana las vistas y permite el ingreso del sol. También contundentemente cerrada en busca de una conexión interior. Una arquitectura que pone en valor al paisaje. Se accede desde arriba, la calle, a través de la cubierta que no supera el punto más alto del lote para no interrumpir las visuales. En un paseo de contemplación, se recorre gradualmente hasta ingresar por abajo. Es este planteo el que, a su vez, posibilita bajar al propio terreno natural. De geometría clara, define un muro de contención que resuelve el lugar de llegada en relación a la montaña. Un puente se desprende y conecta. Angosta, su pisada es casi como la de una “cabra” en la misma cota. Vertiginosa como su topografía, apila el programa habitando en diferentes alturas desde su terraza hasta el suelo. Desde afuera, mono material. Una obra gruesa que emerge del lugar. Es el hormigón armado el que lo resuelve todo. La estructura y el espacio; la relación con el suelo y con el cielo. Sus muros cobran un acabado rugoso capaz de evidenciar el paso del tiempo e imprimir en la obra el clima y los tonos del propio lugar. Por dentro, el espacio cobra escala y se tensiona. Sus singulares proporciones, cambios de altura, aberturas absolutas o cerramientos completos, muestran o esconden el paisaje. Revestida absolutamente en madera, un material cálido en contraposición al exterior áspero, que al ingresar deja percibir su perfume tan particular. Habitando a la altura de la copa de los árboles, un área de estar, comer, cocinar y despertar, conecta con el paisaje. En contraste, un entrepiso introvertido, de planta libre y suspendido sobre la totalidad del vacío. Se ilumina desde abajo (luz nadir) logrando un ambiente que favorece la introspección de quienes lo usan. Un lugar para escribir, leer, propone otra relación con el paso del tiempo al desconectarte del exterior, en un viaje con tu propio interior. Lejos de ser una construcción frágil, como una nueva pieza en la montaña, su síntesis formal es acompañada de una simpleza material. Recurriendo a una tecnología elemental y “hecha a mano”, la propuesta se reduce a pocas operaciones poniendo en valor al paisaje en una actitud respetuosa. La propuesta no transforma la topografía natural y propone diferentes situaciones en una serie de “especies de espacios” exteriores e interiores, íntimos o abiertos donde todo pasa... mientras el aire y el agua siguen corriendo bajo la casa.
