The project themes were numerous: the concept of harmonious and non-invasive beauty, the rejection of aesthetic standardization, and above all, a renewed need to establish a relationship with the place, thus with a Roman spirit that was quite different from the client Milanese experience.
The 150-square-meter property started with a blocked and restrictive spatial configuration due to the load-bearing structure consisting of thick load-bearing walls.
The design intervention aimed to disrupt the typological scheme starting from the entrance. The access was moved from the heart of the property to the exclusive external courtyard, thus reversing the original layout. A metal ramp leads to what is the grand entrance portal, the threshold of a new internal space characterized by the presence of three metallic volumes that act as scenic backdrops, defining the pathways by developing and insinuating themselves below the load-bearing walls, becoming both containers and thresholds. The new fluid spatiality engages with the theme of sensory perception. The chosen materials, from waxed black iron to stainless steel and brass, to terrazzo flooring and cladding, are all materials that represent an "imperfect" and authentic beauty.
Metals were chosen to create effects of light and shadow, to convey solidity but also lightness and flexibility, a kind of flow of space, matter, and memory. The stainless steel mirror boiserie in the corridor expands an otherwise narrow distribution space. Here, the access doors to the bathrooms and a medical room are part of the paneling and are marked by a linear lighting system indicating their openings. The strictly medical area, although more technical, assumes an aesthetic that distances itself from the collective healthcare imagery. In the examination rooms, the terrazzo floor becomes wall boiserie integrating the medical furniture, while in the surgical room, the black floor interacts with white walls and fixed furniture in shades of gray.
The small space covered in golden brass and mirrors, positioned within the waxed black iron furniture, aims to be a multisensory accent within the project, a kind of Baroque exception within an extremely rigorous and measured space.

I temi di progetto sono stati numerosi: il concetto di bellezza armonica e non invasiva, il rifiuto della standardizzazione estetica e soprattutto una rinnovata necessità di instaurare un rapporto con il luogo, quindi con una romanità ben diversa dall’esperienza milanese del cliente.
L’immobile di 150 mq partiva da una configurazione spaziale bloccata e vincolante in quanto la struttura portante consiste di muri portanti di grande spessore. L’intervento progettuale ha voluto scardinare lo schema tipologico partendo dall’ingresso. L’accesso è stato spostato dal cuore dell’immobile alla corte esterna esclusiva, ribaltando quindi l’impianto originario.
Una rampa metallica porta a quello che è il grande portale d’ingresso, la soglia di un nuovo spazio interno caratterizzato dalla presenza di tre volumi metallici che si pongono come quinte scenografiche, definiscono le percorrenze sviluppandosi e insinuandosi al di sotto dei muri portanti e divengono sia contenitori che soglie. La nuova spazialità fluida dialoga con il tema della percezione sensoriale. I materiali scelti, dal ferro nero cerato all’acciaio inox e ottone, alla graniglia per pavimento e rivestimenti, sono tutti materiali che rappresentano una bellezza “imperfetta” e autentica.
Si è scelto di lavorare con i metalli per creare effetti di luce e di ombra, per comunicare solidità ma anche leggerezza e flessibilità, una sorta di flusso di spazio, materia e memoria.
La boiserie in acciaio inox mirror del corridoio amplia uno spazio distributivo altrimenti angusto. Qui le porte di accesso ai bagni e ad una sala medica sono parte della pannellatura e vengono scandite da un sistema di illuminazione lineare identificandone l’apertura.

L’ambito strettamente medico, nonostante sia più tecnico, assume un’estetica che si distanzia dall’immaginario collettivo sanitario. Nelle sale visita il pavimento in graniglia diviene boiserie a parete integrando la parte di arredo medico, mentre nella sala chirurgica il pavimento nero dialoga pareti bianche e l’arredo fisso dalle tonalità grigie.
Il piccolo spazio rivestito in ottone dorato e specchi, posizionato all’interno del mobile in ferro nero cerato, vuole porsi all’interno del progetto come un accento multisensoriale, una sorta di eccezione barocca all’interno di uno spazio estremamente rigoroso e misurato.
