A small apartment designed as a coffer, where a single architectural gesture defines the living space.

The color palette, reduced to the essentials, enhances the qualities of the natural materials in use: marble, wood and glass. The preciousness of the stones is intentionally dematerialized: the lines, pure and geometric, become liquid in the reflections of the embossed mirror and distorted through the refraction of ribbed glass.

The apartment, in the heart of Milan, is part of an independent three-level residence, whose exteriors have been completely renovated, as well as the rooftop terrace.

The design challenge was to combine the compact size of the dwelling with the desire to create inviting, functional, and representative spaces; pleasant to inhabit at all times of the day.

Having reset the previous internal organization, the new layout is designed by a large partition in Verde Alpi marble, which clearly separates the main areas from the service spaces.
This massive element, both because of its solid presence and its intrinsic beauty, is the focal point on which the entire design revolves; a majestic wall that runs through the heart of the house.

The marble partition, designed together with Bianco67, who oversaw its realization with the highest precision, extends from floor to ceiling, concealing compartments and storage.

More than a monolith, the volume is, an inhabited wall, whose thickness is continuously perforated, crossed, interrupted, to host, along its longitudinal development, the different functions of living. 

First, the volume, acts as a threshold: the crossing of the partition marks the entrance to the main room, separating what is outside-the staircase to the apartment, which continues to the roof terrace-from what is inside.  

Crossing the threshold, the partition is configured as a backdrop that defines and identifies the main space of the apartment: living room and bedroom are in fact a single fluid environment, that can be separated, through full-height ribbed glass doors, in case of need. The stone structure is a bold and distinctive backdrop, thanks to the inherent elegance of marble and the craftsmanship of Bianco67, an artisan company with more than fifty years of experience in working with fine marble. 

In fact, through the marble partition, it's possible to delineate various functional areas within the house, such as the living area and the sleeping area, creating a fluid and dynamic division. This stone structure also becomes a work of art in itself, highlighting the craftsmanship of Bianco67 and the inherent elegance of marble.

At the end of the living area, in the interstitial space between the partition and the perimeter walls, the suspended kitchen is nestled, entirely clad in travertine and embossed mirror.

Towards the sleeping area, the marble partition conceals the pivot door providing access to the bathroom, also clad in gray travertine.

Another significant element of the composition is the natural light that pervades the living area through the large windows and culminates in the light well resulting from the double rooftop veranda.

The smooth surface of the marble reflects the natural light coming in from the windows, creating chiaroscuro effects that animate the surrounding spaces.

Lastly, the selection of furnishing elements contributes to an atmosphere of modern and refined luxury, striking a perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality.

Un piccolo appartamento concepito come uno scrigno, dove un solo gesto architettonico definisce lo spazio dell’abitare.

La palette colori, ridotta all'essenziale, esalta le caratteristiche dei materiali naturali impiegati: marmo, legno e vetro. La preziosità delle pietre è volutamente smaterializzata: le linee pure, geometriche, solide, si fanno liquide nei riflessi dello specchio goffrato e distorte attraverso la rifrazione del vetro cannettato. 

L’appartamento, nel centro di Milano, è parte di un’abitazione indipendente su tre livelli, le cui facciate esterne sono state completamente ristrutturate, così come il tetto-terrazzo.

La sfida progettuale è stata quella di coniugare le dimensioni ridotte dell’abitazione con la volontà di ricavare spazi conviviali, di lavoro e di rappresentanza; piacevoli da vivere a tutte le ore del giorno. 

Azzerata la precedente organizzazione interna, il nuovo layout è disegnato da un grande setto in marmo Verde Alpi, che separa nettamente gli ambienti principali da quelli di servizio. 

Questo imponente elemento, sia per la sua solida presenza che per la sua bellezza intrinseca, è il fulcro su cui ruota l'intera progettazione; una maestosa parete che attraversa il cuore della casa.

Il setto, studiato insieme a Bianco67, che ne ha curato la realizzazione con precisione millimetrica, si estende da pavimento a soffitto, nascondendo vani e contenimenti.

Più che un monolite, il volume in marmo è, infatti, un muro abitato, il cui spessore è continuamente forato, attraversato, interrotto, per ospitare, lungo il suo sviluppo longitudinale, le diverse funzioni dell’abitare. 

In primo luogo, il volume, funge da soglia: l’attraversamento del setto segna l’ingresso all’ambiente principale, separando ciò che sta fuori - la scalinata di accesso all’appartamento, che prosegue alla terrazza in copertura - da ciò che sta dentro.  

Attraversata la soglia, il setto si configura come quinta che delimita e identifica lo spazio principale dell’appartamento: zona giorno e zona notte sono infatti un unico ambiente fluido, ma separabile, all’occorrenza, tramite ante in vetro cannettato a tutt’altezza. La struttura di pietra è una quinta scenica; uno sfondo audace e distintivo, grazie all'eleganza intrinseca del marmo e alla maestria artigianale di Bianco67, realtà artigianale con più di cinquant’anni di esperienza nella lavorazione dei marmi pregiati. 

Attraverso il divisorio in marmo, infatti, è possibile delineare diverse zone funzionali all'interno della casa, come la zona giorno e la zona notte, creando una divisione fluida e dinamica. Questa struttura in pietra diventa anche essa stessa un'opera d'arte, mettendo in risalto la lavorazione artigianale di Bianco67 e l'eleganza intrinseca del marmo.

Al termine della zona giorno, nello spazio interstiziale tra setto e mura perimetrali, è ricavata la cucina sospesa, interamente rivestita in travertino e specchio goffrato. 

Verso la zona notte, invece, il setto marmoreo nasconde la porta pivot attraverso la quale si accede al bagno, anch’esso rivestito in travertino grigio.

Ulteriore elemento della composizione è la luce naturale che, pervade la zona giorno attraverso le ampie vetrate e culmina nel pozzo di luce derivante dalla doppia veranda in copertura. 

La superficie levigata del marmo riflette la luce proveniente dalle finestre, creando effetti di chiaro-scuro che animano gli ambienti circostanti.

La selezione degli elementi d’arredo contribuisce, infine, a creare un'atmosfera di lusso moderno e raffinato, in un perfetto equilibrio tra estetica e funzionalità.
