Casa TI | GRU - Gabinete de Recursos Urbanos

A popular neighborhood in Aveiro with narrow streets and somewhat chaotic buildings (between run-down houses and new, dissonant works). This is the environment where we found the ruin from which Casa TI came. The exterior shell remains from the initial construction – in memory of the facade worked with tiles from the beginning of the 20th century and by the captivating, perhaps random, shape of the blind facade. The interior is inappropriate for the new program, which will be larger and more complex.

Within the original walls we grow two new juxtaposed houses. Between the houses and the pre-existing walls, we create connecting spaces, patios, which ensure privacy, define moments of stopping between the interior and exterior and capture the abundant light of the city. The new shape refers to traditional construction in this area of ​​Aveiro and the distance created from the main facade allows for a smooth connection to the main street. The lateral volume is created from the undulating façade of the pre-existence. The openings allow a glimpse of the movement of the house without exposing it to urban noise.
