An expressive library, a verdant cultural oasis and a social hub for relaxation and learning: this is our design proposal for the transformation and new extension of Helsingborg City Library.
A radical proposal with the desire to leave the protected park area as untouched as possible. By layering the new volume on top of the existing library building, new flows are created, and the rear of the library becomes a front.
The materials are carefully selected to minimize the building's footprint, where the existing building's brick facade meets the light and informal architecture combined with innovative sustainability. The new atrium extension is designed as a glulam structure, which is left completely exposed as part of the new building's architectural expression.
The new library will provide residents a platform for learning, knowledge and experiences as well as a wide variety of activities and functions.
