AutoCamp Yosemite | ANACAPA Architecture

Nestled on 35 acres in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, this hospitality project includes a 4,000sqft clubhouse with reception, meeting space, indoor/outdoor lounge areas, and marketplace. The clubhouse includes a scenic roof deck and an outdoor swimming pool. Accommodations include luxury tents, cabins, and deluxe Airstreams.

Using the Airstream as starting point, we looked to modernist masterpieces for inspiration. The clubhouse's resulting clean, rectilinear planes complement the surrounding landscape and set the tone for the rural retreat. We took cues from the spectacular surrounding environment for the interiors, mixing sophisticated contemporary lines with rough-hewn materials. Fire pits are situated throughout the clubhouse, showcasing striking views of the natural surroundings and encouraging a communal experience that honors the spirit and tradition of camping.

The project and program were difficult to resolve, as the client directed the design to adapt to a prior RV park in order to minimize the impact on the surrounding landscape and leave the site undisturbed. The resulting architecture adapted to the site’s topography and worked to rehabilitate a striking environment that the client had envisioned. Mimicking the site in materiality and scale, while taking design cues from mid-century accommodations, this project created a bridge between the design languages of the natural and manmade.
