Every place is composed of innumerable physical and metaphysical layers. All of these layers combined give meaning to the place. In this case, the layers will embody the concept of this idea. The Baleal Fortress possesses a truly unique and characteristic landscape. All the calcareous sediment layers are visible on the edges of the cliff. They narrate its story and how it evolved over time. Additionally, the ruins form another layer of history, recounting our own past.

The design aims to add another layer to the Baleal Fortress. It intends to create an additional rock stratum to support the building, all while taking care not to disrupt the landscape. The program anticipates adapting to the historical purpose of the fortress. Passing through the sole remaining wall, it marks the entrance to the structure. A stage is positioned where a battlement might have existed, offering a view out to the sea, showcasing the horizon.

THE LAYER: The primary wall and the shape of the project will blend almost seamlessly with the landscape, merging both historical and contemporary structures.

THE SOUND: The walls positioned behind the stage will function as sound reflectors, directing sound from the stage.

THE WAVE NOISE: The walls standing behind the stage will serve as a barrier between the sea and the stage, reducing wave noise.

THE SUNSET: The heights of the walls, which rise behind the stage, are designed based on a stereographic chart to effectively cover the sun. This will prevent the sun from causing glare and will also create a natural background. The sea and sunset will both serve as a backdrop for the stage.
