The building sits within the boundaries of the Chislehurst conservation area, and two trees are covered by Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) inside the property.
The aim, as in all our projects, was to build sustainably and reduce construction waste. We, therefore, preserved the garage’s existing brick wall and reused the original roof tiles for the first-floor extension. For the external wall cladding we used timber boards, slightly charred with a traditional Japanese technique called Yakisugi. This method prolongs the life of the wood cladding, making it resistant to fire, infestation and decay.
