The renovation of this hotel located in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, has sought to update the interiors, while preserving the essence of the place and addressing structural issues such as accessibility and the general functionality of the hotel.

On the entrance façade, the project focused on the recovery of the building's original aesthetics and the improvement of the guest's sense of arrival. Over the years the façade had become cluttered with necessary but poorly placed elements. The current sequence of arrival at the hotel lacked the expected rhythm. This arrival is at a mangrove jetty, and travels from a wooden walkway surrounded by vegetation, which is a fantastic arrival, but then a façade appeared that was not up to par with what was expected. It was a waste.

To correct this, the ventilation chimneys were moved, the elevator was relocated to gain access from all levels including the basement where the spa is located and the rooftop where a new event and bar area will be built. Likewise, the parapets of the corridors leading to the rooms were redesigned to incorporate the native vegetation that gives the hotel so much character on the opposite façade.

Along with the new circulations, new decks were added to the façade to reach the rooms under cover and by means of adapted ramps instead of steps. The lobby was also cleared to incorporate a new restaurant and commercial program in this area, which gained in order and spaciousness,

The lobby interior design picked up on the hotel's pre-existing elemental color palette to preserve its essence and was recombined to create a welcoming and elegant space. The new open bar and a new seated reception desk give the guest an enhanced experience.

The hotel also boasts an exceptional restaurant. Its interior was reorganized to again create a proper access sequence, and in the process correcting the waiter circulations. The interior design also sought to reflect the tradition of this restaurant and to bring in greenery, natural materials, freshness and light.

The renovation also covered all the rooms. In them it was decided to alter the situation of the walls and the facilities as little as possible to reduce costs, but without giving up the improvement of functionality and a total change of appearance but in tune with the values of tradition and warmth that has the rest of the proposal.

Other areas where interventions have been made are the Japanese restaurant, where we have sought to give an air of Asian modernity and dimmed light, the spa, where the sense of arrival has been completely changed and new water areas have been added, in addition to an update of the interiors. And finally, a rooftop terrace has been created for events with 360 views, taking advantage of the correction of the vertical circulations in the building.
