The existing single-family house from 1924 has an emotional value for the private client and should enable modern living through a conversion and extension. Through the conscious decision to preserve and supplement the existing building structure and against a new replacement building, the new building project fits into the granularity and appearance of the quarter. The character of the building is being modernized, but in the sense of an architectural rethinking of the original building fabric that is typical of the quarter. The extension nestles against the existing building and merges with the existing building to form a new whole. The extension is made of wood and clad with a bronzed, shingled metal facade.

By refraining from using the property to its full extent, the client is making a current, characterful contribution to densification possible on the basis of preservation, reinterpretation and further construction instead of the usual new replacement building. The result is a new whole that makes its history and breaking points legible.

Inside, you move between the spacious new building and the gently renovated existing building. The interface between the old and new building, which is kept open, becomes a spatial experience thanks to the resulting visual connections and generates a new generosity.
