Werknetz Architektur AG: The new building "Edensieben" is a natural further development of the area Zurich / Switzerland / 2017
Werknetz Architektur:
In terms of its granularity and height development, the replacement building "Edensieben" is a natural further development of the area and is thus integrated into the urban context. The structure forms the continuation of the street alignment on Lerchenstrasse and continues the newly designed "Gartengasse" to Staffelstrasse. Pure residential use is planned on the standard floors, with studios on the ground floor.
A spacious, central staircase with a skylight gives access to three apartments per floor on the standard floors. The apartments are divided into two types of external wet cells. Additional cupboard elements enable diverse living for different types of living in a simple way and according to clear rules.
The legally required staggering of the building body compared to edeneins becomes an architectural theme. In a kind of carving work, the building is formed into a sculptural structure. In order to emphasize the corporeality, the base is only emphasized with a special window element and the private outdoor spaces are cut into the building as loggias. The design of the building has an urban character. A regular, slightly sloping window format and a subtle play in the height development of the windows emphasize the sculptural formulation of the building and give it its independence. By adopting typical elements of the existing commercial architecture and the newly constructed residential buildings (frames, grids, frame extensions), the new building has a strong local connection.
