IL LABORATORIO DELLA MEMORIA

Il “Laboratorio della Memoria” si compone di luoghi di studio, ricerca, confronto e di spazi atti ad ospitare incontri e mostre.

I Lavori delle Opere di Completamento della Biblioteca, sono stati condotti dalla DE MARCO S.r.l., Impresa Capogruppo dell’ATI Affidataria dell’Appalto rappresentata dall’Amministratore Unico, il geom. Pasquale de Marco. La grande area bibliotecaria, così ultimata, si configura come un grande involucro costituito dalla sapiente combinazione di strutture metalliche e di ampie lastre in vetro al cui interno sfoggia maestosa l’anima lignea delle librerie in betulla che si snodano sui tre livelli di camminamento ed illuminate da un sofisticato sistema illuminotecnico domotico.

Data l’importanza del contesto commemorativo in cui si andava ad operare, così intriso di ricordi e di significato, l’impresa aveva pensato sin in fase di gara, di proporre un sistema cantieristico che fungesse non solo da schermo protettivo “semi-opaco" ma anche da mezzo di divulgazione e di rimembranza. Nacque così il progetto di comunicazione di cantiere, in condivisione con la Fondazione del Memoriale della Shoah di Milano, inteso come una serie di finestre trasparenti sulle aree di lavorazione e di cesate opache con rappresentazioni grafiche e didascaliche che ponessero l’accento non solo sui ricordi ma anche sullo spirito condiviso di solidarietà, partecipazione e pace.

L’ing. Valerio Arienti in qualità di Direttore dei Lavori, di concerto con il R.U.P. Arch. Andrea Costa ha proceduto periodicamente alle verifiche di conformità di quanto realizzato rispetto a  quanto predisposto dalla progettazione architettonica affidata allo studio Morpurgo de Curtis Architetti Associati che ha assunto, nell’Appalto, anche il ruolo di Direzione Artistica, di contro le lavorazioni globali d’Appalto sono state condotte e coordinate, lato impresa, dall’ing. Antonio Allegrini in qualità di Project Manager.

A causa delle criticità dettate dalla particolare logistica dei luoghi d’intervento nonché dalla limitata portata di carico della platea desolidarizzata rispetto alle strutture preesistenti e caratterizzata da un sistema di smorzatori al fine di contenere le vibrazioni indotte,  è emersa la necessità da parte dell’Impresa di progettare e installare un sistema composito di carriponte atto alla movimentazione delle grandi vetrate al fine di far fronte alla limitatezza degli spazi di manovra nonché perseguendo la preservazione degli elementi vetrati, rispondendo al contempo ai massimi vincoli di sicurezza e di tutela delle maestranze. Pertanto, sfruttando degli appoggi naturali esistenti, sono state installate in maniera del tutto reversibile, delle grandi strutture ad “L” in profilati metallici saldati e successivamente rimossi, poste in appoggio sui capitelli in cemento armato e sulle travi perimetrali di copertura della struttura metallica costituente lo scheletro della Biblioteca. Alle suddette “L” sono stati saldati dei profilati metallici industriali che hanno funto da imponenti binari di scorrimento bidirezionale, su cui è stato installato un sistema a verricello collegato ad un movimentatore elettrico a ventose con altissime capacità di carico di sollevamento, al fine di garantire in sicurezza la traslazione verticale delle lastre vetrate.

Il sistema antincendio realizzato per l’area Bibliotecaria, a differenza di quelli presenti negli altri ambienti del Memoriale, è costituito da un sofisticato sistema water-mist a nebulizzazione con pressione a 120 bar, progettato al fine di preservare l’integrità dei 45.000 volumi esposti e delle apparecchiature di tipo elettrico ed elettronico. Difatti, gli speciali ugelli water mist che costituiscono i terminali architettonici ed impiantistici del sistema di distribuzione meccanico, consentono l’evaporazione dell’acqua aumentando il suo volume in maniera incrementale, inducendo pertanto una rarefazione dell’ossigeno presente nell’aria evitando di danneggiare il bene protetto rispetto ad altri agenti estinguenti, garantendo gli effetti positivi di raffreddamento, inertizzazione ed effetto di separazione. Le lavorazioni, inoltre, hanno visto l’installazione in spazi esigui di un imponente gruppo di pressurizzazione calato nel vano tecnico esterno, al di sotto della quota stradale, tramite l’ausilio di una gru. Il posizionamento del gruppo tecnologico è stato effettuato su una struttura orizzontale in profilati metallici e in grigliati in acciaio preventivamente consolidata ed ampliata relativamente alla superficie calpestabile.

A partire dai disegni esecutivi ad opera degli architetti sono stati affiancati i disegni costruttivi di cantiere realizzati dall’Impresa tramite un coordinamento integrato attuato tra tutte le figure specializzate coinvolte. Tali elaborati sono stati di fondamentale importanza per realizzare elementi che mettessero in sinergia il sistema impiantistico, illuminotecnico, le opere di officina e di falegnameria, il tutto necessariamente confezionato “su misura”. Tutto all’interno del cantiere rimanda alla “macro” scala legata alla maestosità delle dimensioni dell’involucro di ferro e vetro incastonato a sua volta all’interno di una “scatola” ancor più grande, nonché all’imponente scalinata che conduce alla colossale Porta Sud (alta più di 5 metri!). Eppure il lavoro compiuto ha permesso di declinare la scala macroscopica sino alla scala “micrometrica” grazie al costante confronto tecnico ed umano tra tutte le figure professionali intervenute, consentendo di confezionare su misura tutte le opere di progetto creando un “unicum” di dettagli customizzati e peculiari dall’alto profilo tecnico ed estetico.

THE LABORATORY OF MEMORY
The “Laboratory of Memory” is a place for study, research, comparison and spaces suitable
for hosting meetings and exhibitions. The Works of the Completion Works of the Library,
which included the windows, the iron works and the wooden furnishings, were conducted
by DE MARCO S.r.l., the Assignee Company of the Contract represented by the Administrator
geom. Pasquale de Marco. The large library area, thus completed, is configured as a
large shell consisting of the skilful combination of metal structures and large glass slabs
inside which the wooden soul of the birch bookcases that unfold on three levels
shows off walkways and illuminated by a sophisticated home automation lighting system.

Given the importance of the commemorative context in which it was going to operate, so
steeped in memories and meaning, the company had thought right from the tender stage
to propose a shipbuilding system that would not only act as a “semi-opaque” protective
screen but also as a means of dissemination and remembrance. Thus, the construction
site communication project was born, shared with the Foundation of the Memorial of the
Shoah in Milan, intended as a series of transparent windows on the working areas with
graphic representations and didactic, that placed the accent not only on memories but
also on the shared spirit of solidarity, participation and peace.

Andrea Costa periodically proceeded to check the conformity of what was achieved with
respect to what was prepared by the architectural design entrusted to the Morpourgo de
Curtis Architetti Associati studio which also assumed the role of Artistic Direction, on the
other side the global work of was conducted and coordinated, on the company side, by
Eng. Antonio Allegrini as Project Manager.

Due to the criticalities dictated by the particular logistics of the intervention sites as well
as by the limited load capacity of the stalls isolated from the pre-existing structures, and
characterized by a system of dampers in order to contain the induced vibrations, the need
emerged on the part of the Company to design and install a composite system of overhead
cranes suitable for the movement of large windows in order to cope with the limited
space for manoeuvring as well as pursuing the preservation of the glass elements, while
responding to the maximum safety and protection constraints of the workers. Therefore,
taking advantage of the existing natural supports, large “L” -shaped structures in welded
and subsequently removed metal sections were installed in a completely reversible manner,
placed on the reinforced concrete capitals and on the perimeter roof beams of the
constituent metal structure the skeleton of the Library. Industrial metal profiles were
welded to the aforementioned “L” which acted as imposing bidirectional sliding rails, on
which a winch system connected to an electric suction cup handler with very high liftingload capacity was installed, in order to guarantee the vertical translation of the glass
panes is safe.
The fire-fighting system created for the library area, unlike those present in the other
rooms of the Memorial, is made up of a sophisticated water-mist nebulization system
with a pressure of 120 bar, designed in order to preserve the integrity of the 45,000 volumes
on display and electrical and electronic equipment. In fact, the special water mist
nozzles  which constitute the architectural and plant terminals of the mechanical
distribution system, allow the evaporation of water by increasing its volume incrementally,
thus inducing a rarefaction of the oxygen present in the air. avoiding damaging the
protected property compared to other extinguishing agents, ensuring the positive effects
of cooling, inertization and separation effect. Furthermore, the work involved the installation
in small spaces of an impressive pressurization unit lowered into the external technical
compartment, below the road level, with the aid of a crane. The positioning of the
technological group was carried out on a horizontal structure in metal profiles and steel
grids previously consolidated and enlarged relative to the walkable surface.
The construction drawings translated the needs of the architectural design for the coordination
between structures and systems. These drawings were of fundamental importance
to create elements that put in synergy the plant and lighting system, the workshop
and carpentry works, all necessarily tailor-made. Everything inside the construction site
refers to the “macro” staircase linked to the majesty of the dimensions of the iron and
glass envelope set inside an even larger “box”, as well as to the imposing staircase
which leads to the colossal South Gate (more than 5 meters high!). Yet, the work
carried out has made it possible to decline the macroscopic scale up to the micrometric
scale thanks to the constant technical comparison between all the professional figures
involved, allowing to tailor all the project works, translating the details into customized
creations and peculiar from the high technical and aesthetic profile.
