The project originates from the need to build a house next to a '70s villa, of wich It was not possible to identify historical, architectural or landscape values.

We first decided to operate a substantial renovation on the existing building, trying, without invasive structural interventions, to rework the elements, restoring a new point of view.

We opened large windows replacing small openings, we inserted more rigorous geometries in place of the arches that adorned the facade, messing it up. We finally desaturated the elevations bringing them to white and gray, matched with soft tones of beige stone for the external floors.

The space for the new building was a narrow corridor; a sort of genius loci has expressed itself in the typical Ligurian need to obtain as much space as possible, with accuracy and thrift, from the little.

The new house develops over three levels, the ground floor houses the parking lots, the entrance and the people lift that reaches the sleeping area on the first floor. You can reach the living area on the second floor with a staircase.

The relationship between stone, vertical elements, and white plaster, horizontal elements, crystallizes the matter’s need to make space for itself, while delimiting the environments to be lived in.

The project is strengthened and finds meaning in the dialectic between Mediterranean coast and countryside: if on one side the facade opens completely south towards the sea, on the other the volume is grafted into the hill, becoming one with the land. Equally, a green roof defines a continuum with one of the existing terracing.

By renewing the point of view on the entire complex, it was possible to develop a contemporary project capable of merging with the existing and with the landscape, while keeping an autonomous language.

 L’intervento, sul mare mediterraneo, origina dal bisogno di una nuova abitazione accanto ad una villa degli anni ‘70, della quale è stato impossibile riconoscere valori storici, architettonici o paesistici.

Primo step è stato il rinnovo dell’edificio esistente, cercando, senza interventi strutturali invasivi, di rielaborare gli elementi per definire un nuovo punto di vista.

Abbiamo aperto grandi finestre al posto di piccole aperture, inserito geometrie più rigorose al posto degli archi che ornavano, disordinandola, la facciata ed infine desaturato i prospetti portandoli al bianco, al grigio, con toni tenui di pietra beige per i pavimenti esterni.

Lo spazio per il nuovo edificio era uno stretto corridoio; una sorta di genius loci si è espresso nella tipica necessità ligure di ottenere più spazio possibile, con accuratezza e parsimonia, dal poco.

La nuova abitazione si sviluppa su tre livelli, il piano terra ospita parcheggio, ingresso e montapersone che raggiunge la zona notte al piano primo. Si raggiunge la zona giorno del secondo piano con una scala.

La tensione tra elementi verticali in pietra ed orizzontali in intonaco bianco, cristallizza la necessità della materia di farsi spazio, mentre limita gli ambienti da abitare.

Il progetto si rafforza e trova significato nella dialettica tra i paesaggi della costa mediterranea e della prima campagna: se da una parte la facciata si apre completamente a sud verso il mare, dall'altra il volume si innesta nella collina, diventando tutt'uno con la terra. Allo stesso modo, il tetto verde definisce un continuum con uno dei terrazzamenti esistenti.

Rinnovando il punto di vista sull’intero complesso, è stato possibile sviluppare un progetto contemporaneo capace di fondersi con l’esistente e col paesaggio, pur mantenendo un linguaggio autonomo.
