Liljevalchs Art Gallery | GIPP arkitektur
Stockholm / Sweden / 2013
Liljevalchs’ new extension marks itself as an explicit part of the place, a sculpted volume with its own identity. The extension interacts with Liljevalch existing compact, closed body, reads its architecture and organization, and allows a contemporary sculpted imprint subscribe at the site. Liljevalchs to with its garden café Blue Gate is a cohesive system that clearly defines an outer boundary, where mass and scale creates inner and outer rooms that clearly relates to the art gallery's complex context and to the city.
A sculpted body engages the outer border to the west, and between old and new creates a passage which, like a lantern, pulls down the light between the volumes. A clear situation is created where old and new grips each other.
Team: Petra Gipp, Jonas Hesse, Emil Bäckström, Malin Heyman, Susanna Bremberg, Jasmien Wouters, Dacil Lorente Snowdon, Maja Hjertén Knutsson, Daniel Andersson, Maria Cagnoli Marco Nathanson
