La Communal occupies half of a block in the Sants district of Barcelona. It is a protected industrial building, built in 1926 for the manufacture of naval sails. It is currently the workspace of eight organizations, including Lacol.

In the intervention, the initial geometry has been recovered, rehabilitating the original constructions and adding a small new building to the dividing wall of the neighboring houses. The central courtyard, in addition to allowing ventilation and lighting of all the spaces that surround it, is an element of centrality to meet with others.

The buildings, except the restaurant and concert hall, received a minimum treatment. On the roofs, after removing the pieces of fiber cement with asbestos, we placed corrugated galvanized steel sheet and thus differentiate those materials added in the project from the existing ones.

We have divided the climate strategy into three axes. Starting with the air, greenhouses have been incorporated to capture Sun heat, and the air-conditioned square meters have been reduced. As for the water, a 5,000 liter tank allows the use of the water from the roofs for irrigation and cleaning. Finally, the material intervention of the existing buildings has focused on their consolidation and their energy and bioclimatic behavior. Insulation has been improved with a mix of lime and cork mortar to ensure compatibility and behavior with the materials and techniques required in a heritage intervention. 1,200 linear meters of joists have been reused as rakes to place the roof insulation. Floors and other elements in contact with the ground have been insulated with envelopes from rigid insulation from the sandwich panel industry.

La Comunal ocupa la mitad de una manzana del barrio de Sants de Barcelona. Es un edificio industrial protegido, construido en 1926 para la fabricación de velas navales. Actualmente es el espacio de trabajo de ocho entidades, incluida Lacol.

En la intervención se ha recuperado la geometría inicial, rehabilitando las naves originales y añadiendo un pequeño edificio de obra nueva en la pared medianera de las viviendas vecinas. El patio central, además de permitir la ventilación y la iluminación de todos los espacios que lo rodean, es un elemento de centralidad en el que encontrarse.

Las naves, salvo el restaurante y sala de conciertos, han recibido un tratamiento de mínimos. En las cubiertas, después de sacar las piezas de fibrocemento con amianto hemos colocado chapa de acero galvanizado ondulada y así diferenciar aquellos materiales añadidos en proyecto de aquellos existentes.

Hemos dividido en tres ejes la estrategia climática. Empezando por el aire, se han incorporado invernaderos para captar calor solar, reduciendo los metros cuadrados climatizados. Por lo que respecta al agua, un depósito de 5.000 litros permite aprovechar el agua de las cubiertas para el riego y la limpieza. Finalmente, la intervención material de las naves se ha centrado en su consolidación y en su comportamiento energético y bioclimático. Se ha mejorado el aislamiento con morteros de cal y corcho que aseguran la compatibilidad y comportamiento con los materiales y técnicas requeridas en una intervención patrimonial. Se han podido reutilizar 1.200 metros lineales de viguetas como bordillos donde colocar el aislante de cubierta. Soleras y otros elementos en contacto con el terreno se han aislado con restos de los aislamientos rígidos provenientes de la industria del panel sandwich.

La Comunal ocupa la meitat d’una illa del barri de Sants de Barcelona. És un edifici industrial protegit, construït el 1926 per a la fabricació de veles navals. Actualment és l’espai de treball de vuit entitats, inclosa Lacol.

En la intervenció s’ha recuperat la geometria inicial, rehabilitant les naus originals i afegint un petit edifici d’obra nova a la paret mitgera dels habitatges veïns. El pati central, a banda de permetre la ventilació i la il·luminació de tots els espais que l’envolten, és un element de centralitat on trobar-se.

Les naus, excepte el restaurant i sala de concerts, han rebut un tractament de mínims. A les cobertes, després de treure les peces de fibrociment amb amiant hem col·locat xapa d’acer galvanitzat ondulada i així diferenciar aquells material afegits en projecte d’aquells existents.

Hem dividit en tres eixos l’estratègia climàtica. Començant per l’aire, s’han incorporat hivernacles per captar escalfor solar, i s’han reduït els metres quadrats climatitzats. Pel que respecte l’aigua, un dipòsit de 5.000 litres permet aprofitar l’aigua de les cobertes pel rec i la neteja. Finalment la intervenció material de les naus s’ha centrat en la seva consolidació i en el seu comportament energètic i bioclimàtic. S’ha millorat l’aïllament amb morters de calç i suro que asseguren la compatibilitat i comportament amb els materials i tècniques requerides en una intervenció patrimonial. S’han pogut reutilitzar 1.200 metres lineals de biguetes com a rastells on col·locar l’aïllant de coberta. Soleres i altres elements en contacte amb el terreny s’han aïllat amb sobres dels aïllaments rígids provinents de la indústria del panell sandwich.
