MOMP estudio is born as a place to create, live, enjoy and grow. It arises from the will to give the space sufficient flexibility to accommodate all the uses and activities foreseen and to come. The opportunity to design a space of one’s own encourages reflection on the future, and these reflections conclude with the need not to condition the space with rigid elements that do not allow it to be adapted to the different situations that may arise over time.

The challenge when facing the design is given by the need to fit a versatile and flexible program within a limited space, which also expresses the concerns and personality of the studio. The objective is to generate different areas that allow the present work to be developed without conditioning the possible uses that may be developed in the future. The four spaces derived from the program of needs are: workspace, meeting room, office and toilet.

The characteristics of the environment are key to establishing a line of work to follow. The golf course located in front of the only opening to the outside, oriented to the west, generates a deep perspective full of color given the dense vegetation. The objective is to generate an opening that frames that view and generates a representative image that becomes part of the study.

Temporality and the maturation of materials have been fundamental in the composition of space, understanding that the physical evolution of materials is something inevitable has been the axis on which materiality is formulated.

Appreciating the beauty in the appearance of natural materials as they erode and age is something we are not used to today and is the aspect that gives identity and value to most of the monumental works we admire. The way in which natural materials reflect the passage of time is something that allows spaces to evolve and reflect different states and moments.

There is a special interest in combining this desire to escape perfection and the eternally lasting with the use of locally sourced materials that reference Mediterranean vernacular architecture. Handmade clay produced in the Valencian community is chosen as the conductor element in the workspace. The imperfections and history that each piece tells, literally unique due to its manufacture, is perfect to exemplify this fact.

Clay is related to the area where the creative process takes place and work is developed. It establishes an analogy between craftsmanship in the architectural process and the manufacture of clay pieces, in which the traces of the people who worked on them can be appreciated, in the same way that we intend to leave our mark on the projects we carry out.

There is a marked transition between the workspace, with its imperfections, and the office and meeting room spaces. These are presented as abstract spaces in which the finish of the pavement, walls and ceilings is unified through the use of continuous materials with the same tonality in all of them. The only element that stands out from the canvas created by continuous materials is wood. The wood cladding is related to the service and storage spaces. The integral design of the carpentry is carried out by the studio, so it has been adapted to the maximum to the needs and aesthetics.

The layout of the space serves as a stage to collect a natural travertine island in the center. The material is presented raw without any treatment in order to be able to appreciate in it all the imperfections caused in its formation over the years. Around this piece, the main circulations are generated, so we have been able to verify the attraction power that passing the hand over the piece and feeling it has for visitors.
