100 Miles | Patrick Torcasio
ingredients less travelled Adelaide / Australia / 2022
To create artisanal dishes using ingredients sourced within 100 miles of the venue is the core philosophy of restaurant and bar 100Miles. This emphasis on ‘ingredients less travelled’ translates to a sustainable & more flavourful dining experience, while supporting local artisan farmers and producers.
the client wanted to create a meeting place that feels welcoming for people and reflected the 100 Mile narrative - local produce, local materials, good vibes, and great food.
Looking to increase customer engagement, we created a fully open kitchen, with a custom mural backdrop. It's simple, warm, engaging, and traditional yet contemporary, allowing a connected experience into the chef’s domain.
Using local materials, textures, and colour to express the Adelaide history;
The kitchen mural is a visual representation of the Flinders Ranges, home to some of SA's best food, wine, and scenery. No better backdrop to the kitchen.
Crimson Paint Colour, is a symbolic representation of the rich farming soils.
Wall groove texture, is a symbolic representation of the trenches cut by the farming plough which are called furrows.
Concrete, is a symbolic of the cement manufacturing history in Australia which commenced in 1882 with the establishment by William Lewis of the ‘Brighton Cement works’ in SA.
Timber Battens & Planks, is symbolic of SA's historical and iconic production of forests and extensive wood processing lumber mills industry.
Kitchen Brick Wall, are local recycled brick face skins symbolic of the brickyards established from the 1880’s
All these deeply expressive elements combined is 100Miles.
