This project involved significant alteration works and split-level addition, to an existing heritage house in the inner city.

The large corner site provided an opportunity to create a “double frontage” that the current home was lacking. The existing house followed a typical Victorian-style configuration with lean tos dominating a major streetfront, which also disconnected raised living areas from the surrounding sloped landscape.

The proposed rear addition set out to mimic and enhance existing roof lines/ forms in a contemporary fashion, to distinguish and highlight the original heritage areas. The new addition incorporates an existing garage, which creates a more sympathetic relationship and continuity with neighbouring house frontages.

New bedroom, bathroom and living areas were proposed, which take advantage of raised views and outlooks and better connect the house to the landscape and new pergola/ BBQ area.

Rhinezinc was the dominant material proposed for new areas, for its appearance, longevity and to complement the surrounding heritage context.
