A large, modern restaurant is being built at the site of the former Groote Boel farm in Nijmegen North, located in the midst of a beautifully landscaped green area. Our office designed the architectural and urban design of the new hospitality building, opting for a contemporary take on a "barn" with a nod to its past. To preserve the historic foundations of the former barn, the hotel and restaurant will be raised on the plot, improving the view of the Oosterhoutse plas. The design features an open side facing the lake and a closed side facing the neighborhood, with a transparent and inviting end façade that serves as a landmark in the area. The wooden cladding has a slightly weathered look, while the roof is made of matte zinc with tight detailing and integrated solar panels. The design process involved close consultation with the municipality's spatial planning and cultural history committees.
