Our clients purchased a beautiful, spacious plot with forest on the edge of the city. They wanted to build a life-resistant and energy-neutral home with a modern look. Our design features a closed front and open back, utilizing sight lines to bring in natural light to all living areas throughout the day. The kitchen diner is a key element of the design and is strategically placed on the north side. The kitchen is connected to a loft, allowing for sunlight and daylight to enter from other sides. The floor plan includes an open connection between different spaces, including the living kitchen, sitting room, and lounge area, all connected through sightlines flowing throughout the house. The back facade is completely open and transparent, incorporating the forest into the interior space. The front of the house is surrounded by a large garden wall with a patio, providing a wind-protected sitting area. The house is constructed from stone, steel, and burnt black Shou Sugi Ban wood.
