«CODE coffee» coffee house | ESENINS design studio

The coffee house is within the modern office space under the CODEVELOPMENT brand.  Both the name of the brand and the name of the coffee house as such feature the word “code”. The same word became the keynote of our design. While working on the project, we used the idea of pixelation, encryption – the entire interior design of the coffee house turns into some sort of encoding.    

Surrounding the coffee point is a lobby area that has been arranged close to the reception desk. We have placed a large concrete bar counter with the coffee house name stamped thereon. There’s nothing more than necessary — just a large concrete slab.

The focal point is a coffee machine with a glass cake cover placed nearby. An electronic menu composed of many thousands of lamps is a real eye-catcher. The menu displays daily specials and promotions as well as a variety of items that make you feel good and positive all day long! Along with the electronic display, there is a traditional paper menu with a complete list of items.      

Hanging over the bar counter is an illuminated sign with its outer case made of perforated plastic and a neon sign ‘CAFE’ beneath. Such solution allowed, first, to highlight the coffee shop area and, second, to repeat the customer’s corporate design ‘CODEVELOPMENT’. This dot pattern also serves as a link between all the elements of the coffee house – it emphasizes the idea of the code which is the basis of the design project. 

There is a lounge area close to the bar counter, featuring bright yellow and light gray armchairs, a big wooden panel and floor lamps – all these details make the coffee house look more inviting and home-like. A dot pattern on the floor covering chimes with the electronic menu board and sends back to the idea of the code — this pattern symbolizes the Morse alphabet. The encoding experience is further complemented by the waves on the panel that resemble a punched card. Round tables and soft floor covering attenuate the austere, rigid forms of the interior: marble floors, vertical concrete walls, ceiling light geometry.

Located on the first floor, the coffee house has a special takeaway window, which allows guests to buy its products for takeout right from the outside — there’s no need to enter the business center building, coffee can be ordered on the way to work or to the Tretyakov Gallery which is situated nearby.
