A new two-storey residence is proposed within a secluded waterfront sanctuary in Queensland.

The design of the house is strongly influenced by site conditions and orientation, to take advantage of waterfront views and tropical sunsets.

The floor plans takes advantage of the triangular-shaped site, by being more private and enclosed at the narrow/ entry side of the block, opening out completely towards a secluded canal and views. Staggered floorplates cantilever to the north to avoid overshadowing neighbours to the south, while creating shade and shelter for inhabitants on ground floor living areas. A large triangular skylight draws natural light through an open void, which creates vertical relief in the vast open floor plan and encourages cross-flow ventilation.

A simple natural and robust materials palette of fine renders, stone and aluminium/timber has been selected to resist the harsh coastal environment, which is heightened by the predominant use of white and light tones.
