This old building has been functionally and climatically adapted to respond to the needs of family life of its buyers, respecting the environment and fostering relationships with neighbors in the city center. It is an intern dwelling with a highly differentiated double façade. A more intimate one facing south with very good sunlight and the other public facing one of the pedestrian streets in the center of the municipality, facing north.

The concept of the project arises from the section. It is a typical construction between party walls with a gabled roof. With the simple gesture of lengthening one of its skirts at the point of the ridge, a horizontal skylight is generated that allows the sun to enter in winter and cross ventilation so beneficial to achieve a good interior environment. Much importance has been given to the spaces of transition between the public and the private, but also between the difference in interior and exterior temperatures. A large opening to the south has been generated to also achieve the relationship between interior and exterior in the patio area. These large glazed surfaces require design gestures to achieve interior climatic comfort and also the privacy necessary for the development of daily life. In an increasingly extreme climate, where summers are really hot, it is necessary to create intermediate spaces or interstitial zones. In this case, it has been decided to remove the enclosure from the façade plane, to create a small overhang-porch, emphasized by a traditional solution based on wooden roller shutters to achieve a generous shaded area that manages to attenuate the heat so that it does not the house is heated during the summer months. In winter these protections can be easily rolled up or removed to allow the solar incidence to enter the kitchen. In terms of materiality, we have chosen to preserve its most characteristic main elements such as concrete or wooden beams, its ceramic vaults and its tiled roof, in combination with durable and little processed materials such as reinforced concrete with a polished finish, wood spruce and natural stone. The house has an aerothermal installation, underfloor heating, air recuperators, water softener, osmosis and the possibility of installing photovoltaic panels. All coatings and paints have been studied and proposed from a healthy point of view for both the environment and its inhabitants. 

The project has been approached from a deep analysis of the family's lifestyle, analyzing their needs and their daily customs in the domestic space. Her parenting style has been respected, so that her two-year-old son has autonomy to have his utensils, toys and clothes within her reach. In this sense, details such as the double height of the handrails of the railings and the handles of their cabinets have been contemplated. The possibility of having guests at home in a higher attic still to be defined has also been considered. The municipal regulations consider the need to reserve a parking lot at the entrance of the house. This space will also be used as a transition area between the public space of the street and the entrance to the house, where bicycles, scooters, strollers will be parked, but children's craft workshops will also be held. Currently the protagonists of the house are a couple with a 2-year-old child who intends to expand the family. That is why the areas have been equipped in which they are clear about what type of activities they are going to carry out: rest, play, cook, eat, but the house allows a degree of indefiniteness in spaces such as the attic, the patio shed and even the area prior to entry. What truly offers flexibility in a house is not mobile partitions or transformable furniture, but precisely the creation of rooms without a defined use such as attics and the conservation of an old chicken coop. The passage of time and its inhabitants will tell.

Esta edificación entre medianeras se ha adaptado funcional y climáticamente para dar respuesta a las necesidades de la vida familiar de sus nuevos dueños, respetando el entorno y propiciando la relación vecinal en el casco antiguo del municipio. Se trata de una vivienda pasante con una doble fachada muy diferenciada. Una más íntima orientada a sur con muy buen asoleo y la otra pública dando a una de las calles peatonales del centro del municipio, orientada a norte.

El concepto del proyecto surge de la sección. Inicialmente era una construcción típica entre medianeras con cubierta a dos aguas. Con el simple gesto de alargar uno de sus faldones en el punto de la cumbrera, se genera un lucernario horizontal que permite la entrada de sol en invierno y la ventilación cruzada tan beneficiosa para conseguir un buen ambiente interior. Se le ha dado mucha importancia a los espacios de transición entre lo público y lo privado pero también entre el diferencial de las temperaturas a lo largo del todo recorrido desde la calle hasta el interior del patio. Se ha generado una gran obertura a sur para conseguir continuidad entre interior y exterior en la zona del patio. Estas grandes superficies vidriadas precisan de gestos proyectuales para conseguir el confort climático interior y también la intimidad necesaria para el desarrollo de la vida cotidiana de sus habitantes.

En un clima cada vez más extremado, donde los veranos son realmente calurosos, es necesario crear espacios intermedios o zonas intersticiales. En este caso se ha optado por retirar el cerramiento del plano de fachada, para crear un pequeño voladizo-porche, enfatizado por una solución tradicional a base de persianas enrollables de madera para conseguir una generosa zona de sombra que consigue atenuar el calor para que no se caliente la vivienda durante los meses estivales. En invierno se pueden enrollar o retirar fácilmente estas protecciones para permitir que la incidencia solar entre hasta la cocina. En cuanto a la materialidad, hemos optado por conservar sus elementos principales más característicos como las vigas de hormigón o de madera, sus bovedillas cerámicas y su cubierta de teja, en combinación con materiales durables y poco procesados como el hormigón armado acabado pulido, la madera de abeto y la piedra natural. La casa cuenta con instalación de aérotermia, suelo radiante, recuperadores de aire, descalcificador, ósmosis y posibilidad de instalar placas fotovoltaicas. Se ha reforzado el aislamento térmico desde el exterior con sistema SATE. Todos los revestimientos y pinturas se han estudiado y propuesto desde un punto de vista saludable tanto para el medio ambiente como para sus habitantes.

Se ha enfocado el proyecto desde un análisis profundo del estilo de vida de la familia, estudiando sus necesidades y sus costumbres cotidianas en el espacio doméstico. Se ha respetado su estilo de crianza, de modo que su hijo de dos años tenga autonomía para tener sus utensilios, juguetes y ropa a su alcance. En este sentido se han contemplado detalles como la doble altura del pasamanos de la barandilla y de los tiradores de sus armarios. También se ha contemplado la posibilidad de tener invitados en casa en un altillo superior aún por definir. La normativa municipal considera la necesidad de reservar un párquing en la entrada de la vivienda. Este espacio se usará también como zona de transición entre el espacio público de la calle y la entrada a la vivienda, en el que se aparcarán las bicicletas, patinetes, cochecitos, pero también se realizarán talleres infantiles de manualidades. Actualmente los protagonistas de la vivienda son una pareja con un niño pequeño y tienen intención de ampliar la familia. Por eso se han equipado las zonas en las que tienen claro que tipo de actividades van a realizar: descansar, jugar, cocinar, comer, pero la casa permite un grado de indefinición en espacios como el altillo, el cobertizo del patio e incluso la zona previa a la entrada porque lo que verdaderamente ofrece flexibilidad en una casa no son los tabiques móviles o los muebles transformables, sino precisamente la creación de estancias sin un uso definido. El paso del tiempo y sus habitantes dirán.
