Giardinetto Hotel | lamatilde

lamatilde has redesigned the common areas of the Giardinetto Hotel and Restaurant, on the shores of Lake Orta, turning the striking natural context into an opportunity to study the typical elements of local architecture’s lakeside style, which is varied and complex to decode. 

As in all of lamatilde’s work, the concept reimagines space as a tool for storytelling. Every project thus turns into a story that merges architecture, product design and communication into a unique experience, through an analysis of the lifestyles of today and tomorrow and of the local culture.

In the Giardinetto architectural project, lamatilde brings to the structure craftsmanship’s deep care for detail, the space’s particular light, and the presence of elements that echo the colors of the surrounding landscape, full of chromatic variations. The blue of the lake and green of the pristine forests stream in through the wide windows, and reverberate in the interiors thanks to the studio’s design.

The project focused on the indoor spaces going from the lobby to the cocktail bar, with the goal of making them more fluid, with clearer flows, enhancing the structure’s common areas. The accesses along the wall that separates the two zones were highlighted with portals and introduced by a change in color in the wood paneling, translating into architecture the action of moving through a passage.

While light and luminous colors prevail in the lobby, the cocktail bar is enveloped in a softer atmosphere, with mirrored surfaces and more soothing tones.

The most striking element is the floor, which stands out with the large geometrical motif in Marazzi, marble-effect porcelain stoneware alternating green, white and black.

The pattern designed by lamatilde is inspired by the geometric details in classic floors, but gives its own, macro interpretation of them. Starting from the floors, the decor extends to cover part of the walls, adding visual dynamism and complementing the layout of the spaces. 

The furniture reflects the green and blue hues of the floor and outdoor landscape: each piece was designed for the hotel with custom upholstery and finishes. Among the companies included in the project, there are Calligaris for the stools, Coco and Quadrotta for the armchairs, Atollo for benches and tables – customized with tops in Marazzi tiles – and Chesterfield for the sofas.

Lighting includes stunning Zero Round pendant lamps by Panzeri, Bombo by MILOOX, tracks with OTY spotlights and Bulb ceiling lights.

The counters – in both the lobby and the bar – are divided in two parts to lighten the visual impact of the decor, while maintaining full functionality. 

Plants of different species are added with both a decorative role and to divide spaces, also recalling the name of the hotel (as Giardinetto literally means “small garden” in Italian) and its relationship with the surrounding nature.

lamatilde riprogetta le aree comuni dell’Hotel Ristorante Giardinetto sulle sponde del lago d’Orta: lo scenografico contesto naturale circostante diventa occasione per uno studio degli elementi che caratterizzano lo stile lacustre delle architetture locali, vario e complesso da codificare. 

Il concept che identifica tutti i lavori firmati da lamatilde, infatti, immagina lo spazio come strumento narrativo. Ogni progetto diventa una sorta di racconto che, attraverso un’analisi degli stili di vita di oggi e di domani e della cultura del luogo, unisce architettura, prodotto e comunicazione in un’esperienza unica

Nel progetto architettonico di Giardinetto, lamatilde riporta all’interno della struttura la cura artigianale per il dettaglio, la peculiare luminosità degli spazi e la presenza di elementi che richiamano i colori del paesaggio circostante, con le sue sfumature cromatiche. Il blu del lago e il verde dei boschi incontaminati entrano letteralmente dalle ampie finestre e si riverberano negli interior grazie al progetto dello studio.

La progettazione si concentra sugli spazi interni tra la lobby di accoglienza e l’American Bar, con l’obiettivo di rendere gli ambienti più fluidi e i percorsi più evidenti, valorizzando gli spazi comuni della struttura. Gli accessi lungo la parete di separazione tra le due aree sono stati sottolineati con portali e accompagnati da un cambio colore della boiserie, in modo da rendere architettonico il gesto del passaggio.

Mentre nella lobby prevalgono i colori chiari e luminosi, l’American Bar ha un’atmosfera più soffusa, con superfici specchiate e tonalità meno squillanti.

L’elemento più connotante è la pavimentazione, caratterizzata dal disegno di una grande greca in grès porcellanato di Marazzi effetto marmo che alterna verde, bianco e nero.

Il pattern ideato da lamatilde riprende il dettaglio geometrico delle pavimentazioni classiche ma reinterpretato in versione macro. Partendo dai pavimenti, il decoro si espande fino a coprire parte delle pareti, creando movimento dal punto di vista visivo ed esaltando la distribuzione degli ambienti. 

Tutti gli arredi rispecchiano i toni verdi e blu del pavimento e del paesaggio esterno e sono customizzati per la struttura con finiture e rivestimenti ad hoc. Tra le aziende coinvolte nel progetto: Calligaris per gli sgabelli, le poltrone Coco e Quadrotta, le panche Atollo e i tavoli Atollo, personalizzati con top realizzato con piastrelle Marazzi, divani Chesterfield.

L’illuminazione include le scenografiche lampade a sospensione Zero Round di Panzeri, Bombo dell’azienda MILOOX, binari con faretti OTY e Plafone Bulb.

I banconi, sia della reception che del bar, sono divisi in due parti per alleggerire l’impatto visivo dell’allestimento mantenendo però la funzionalità degli stessi.

L’aggiunta del verde svolge una funzione sia di decorazione che di partizione degli spazi, con diverse specie di piante e richiamano il nome dell'hotel e la sua relazione con la natura circostante.
