Marché d’Intérêt National | Erik Giudice Architecture
Réalisation du Marché d’Intérêt National de Nantes Nantes / France
With its architectural, urban, and functional qualities, the new logistics market, Marché d'Intérêt National de Rezé (MiN), has emerged as a significant focal point located just south of Nantes in western France. The architecture of the MiN is driven by a strong environmental ambition that aligns with the sustainability goals of the Nantes Region. Additionally, the project serves as an important tool for sustainable economic development in the area.
Characterized by its innovative and functional design, the large central wholesale market stands as the heart of the MiN. Its expressive architecture draws inspiration from 19th-century market halls, presented in a modern manner. The generous roof invites visitors and those working on-site, while the wooden structure overhead contributes to a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The design aims to create a structure that opens towards the north entrance while integrating with the landscape to the south, which is defined by open fields bordered by hedges. Similarly, hedges frame the new logistics market, enhancing its connection to the surrounding environment.
The architectural approach is based on rational construction, with carefully selected materials that highlight both aesthetic qualities and structural integrity. This systematic design provides great flexibility, a defining characteristic of the entire MiN project. Through clean shapes and well-balanced proportions, a coherent unity is achieved. The architecture is both contemporary and timeless, employing sustainable and high-quality materials that ensure the project's longevity and harmonious integration with the rich architectural heritage of Nantes.
