Light Garden House | Mami and Associates Architects

The three story wooden house with a common light garden is for two family, mother and her daughter's, in Setagaya Tokyo. Due to surround by neighbor houses, an elongated garden is located towards the road at north for inviting natural light, wind and visual connection to the city. Each room is located around this garden with windows so that both family can feel their presence and unite family.

In recent years, the price of land in the city has skyrocketed, and houses for nuclear families are being subdivided into smaller lots and mass-produced in a similar manner. However, families have different lifestyles and work styles, and we believe that more diverse homes are needed. We wanted to create a new way of living where the two family could come together again, making use of the familiar land where the mother now lives. Conventional two-family houses tend to have a wall between them, but we sought a spatial configuration that would allow the two families to have a good sense of distance and relationship. Today's wooden houses are covered with plasterboard and lack the warmth of wood, and the city is full of ready-made exterior materials that are too homogeneous. This project aimed to create a new type of house that is not limited to a single dwelling unit, but rather opens up the garden to the city, bringing in light, wind, and greenery.

The first floor is for the mother, and the second and third floors are for the daughter's family, each maintaining their independence, sharing the wind and light, and watching over each other through the trees. We planned that the entrance on the second floor would always be reached by a staircase around the light garden. Curved glass and wood-aluminum composite sashes are used in the openings facing the deep light garden to create a soft expansion of the interior space. In order to create a space where one can feel the warmth of wood in a three-story wooden structure, we exposed the wooden structure, finished the ceiling in wood and wood furniture. We also designed a wooden staircase. The angle of the sun's rays corresponds to the slanted tiles on the exterior walls, informing us of the changing seasons. The sandy coating that makes up the curved surface gives the appearance of natural rock surface.

Because of the site conditions, with neighboring houses close by on the south side, we created a deep garden on the north side and divided the volume of the building to invite sunlight, resulting in a bright house filled with light. The space around the light garden is a single room, so the light garden can be seen from anywhere. On the first floor, where the art classes are held, there is a gallery facing the light garden, and on the second floor, the living room around the light garden is connected to the third floor through a wooden staircase in the atrium, designed to allow wind and light to pass through.

La casa de madera de tres pisos con un jardín luminoso común es para dos familias, la madre y su hija, en Setagaya, Tokio. Debido a la proximidad de las casas vecinas, un jardín alargado está situado hacia la carretera en el norte para invitar a la luz natural, el viento y la conexión visual con la ciudad. Cada habitación está situada alrededor de este jardín con ventanas para que ambas familias puedan sentir su presencia y unir a la familia.

En los últimos años, el precio del suelo en la ciudad se ha disparado, y las casas para familias nucleares se están subdividiendo en lotes más pequeños y se producen en masa de forma similar. Sin embargo, las familias tienen estilos de vida y de trabajo diferentes, y creemos que se necesitan casas más diversas. Queríamos crear una nueva forma de vivir en la que las dos familias pudieran reunirse de nuevo, aprovechando el terreno familiar en el que ahora vive la madre. Las casas bifamiliares convencionales suelen tener un muro entre ellas, pero nosotros buscamos una configuración espacial que permitiera a las dos familias tener una buena sensación de distancia y relación. Las casas de madera de hoy en día están recubiertas de pladur y carecen de la calidez de la madera, y la ciudad está llena de materiales exteriores prefabricados demasiado homogéneos. Este proyecto pretendía crear un nuevo tipo de casa que no se limitara a una sola vivienda, sino que abriera el jardín a la ciudad, aportando luz, viento y vegetación.

La primera planta es para la madre, y la segunda y tercera para la familia de la hija, cada una manteniendo su independencia, compartiendo el viento y la luz, y vigilándose mutuamente a través de los árboles. Hemos previsto que a la entrada de la segunda planta se llegue siempre por una escalera que rodea el jardín de luz. En las aberturas que dan al profundo jardín de luz se utilizan vidrios curvados y hojas compuestas de madera y aluminio para crear una suave expansión del espacio interior. Para crear un espacio en el que se pueda sentir la calidez de la madera en una estructura de madera de tres pisos, expusimos la estructura de madera, acabamos el techo en madera y los muebles de madera. También diseñamos una escalera de madera. El ángulo de los rayos del sol se corresponde con las baldosas inclinadas de las paredes exteriores, informándonos de los cambios de estación. El revestimiento de arena que compone la superficie curvada da la apariencia de una superficie de roca natural.

Debido a las condiciones del emplazamiento, con casas vecinas cercanas en el lado sur, creamos un profundo jardín en el lado norte y dividimos el volumen del edificio para invitar a la luz del sol, lo que dio como resultado una casa luminosa llena de luz. El espacio que rodea al jardín luminoso es una sola habitación, por lo que el jardín luminoso puede verse desde cualquier lugar. En la primera planta, donde se imparten las clases de arte, hay una galería que da al jardín luminoso, y en la segunda planta, la sala que rodea al jardín luminoso está conectada con la tercera planta a través de una escalera de madera en el atrio, diseñada para permitir el paso del viento y la luz.

世田谷の閑静な住宅街に光庭を持つ木造3階建の母と娘家族の二世帯住宅である。隣家に囲まれているため、接道する北側に光と風を導く奥に深い庭（光庭）を設けた。その庭を巡るようにそれぞれの住居を配置し、大きな窓を通して互いの気配が感じられる住まいとした。光庭を開くことでまちとつながり、共有することで家族を結ぶ長屋の計画である。

近年都心の土地価格は高騰し、核家族向けの住宅は土地を細分化して似たような住宅が量産されつつある。しかし家族の生活や働き方はそれぞれ異なり本来はもっと多様な家が望まれていると考える。そこで現在は母が住む馴染みのある土地を活かしてもう一度２つの家族が集まって暮らす新しい住まいをデザインする。従来の2世帯住宅は壁を挟んだ住まい方に陥りがちだが、２つの家族が程よい距離感と関わり合いを持てる空間構成を模索した。また、現在の木造住宅は石膏ボードで覆われ木のぬくもりを感じない内観や均質すぎる既製品の外装材が都市に溢れている。さらに、高気密高断熱化した住宅は閉鎖的になり、時の移り変わりや自然を感じる機会を失ってきている。１住戸だけで完結せず庭がまちに開かれることで光・風・緑を取り込む新しい住まいの姿を目指した。

1階は母、2~3階は娘家族としてそれぞれが独立性を保ちつつ風や光を共有しながら木々越しに互いを見守る構成とした。２階の玄関へは光庭をめぐる階段を上ってアプローチする。奥に深い光庭に面する大きな開口部に曲面複層ガラスや木とアルミの複合サッシをすることで、柔らかく広がる空間をつくる。木架構を現し、天井を木で仕上げ、木製家具や木製階段をデザインし、都心の木造３階建てで木の温もりを感じられるようにした。光庭に落ちる太陽の光は外壁の斜めに張られるタイルと呼応し、季節の移り変わりを知らせてくれる。曲面を構成する砂状塗装は自然の岩肌のような表情になる。

　敷地の南側が隣家で囲まれている条件から、あえて北側に奥に深い庭を設けて太陽光を呼び込むように建物のボリュームを分節することで光が降り注ぐ明るい家となった。光庭の周りの空間はワンルームにしてどこからでも光庭を眺めることができ、フラワーアート教室が行われる１階は光庭に面して作品が展示できるギャラリーがあり、２階は光庭を巡るリビングから吹き抜けの木製階段を通じて３階へと繋がり、光庭を通じて3階まで風や光が抜ける住まいになった。
