NN06 | BURR

NN06 is a set of objects and interventions to transform an office into a house.

Without modifying the previously existing configuration of a former office in northern Madrid, the surface coverings of ceilings, floors and walls are removed to leave a raw base on which to act. This defines the massive, solid part of the project: the building. On the other hand a series of objects that look for openings and holes to fit in, that hang from the load-bearing walls or rest on the hard surfaces appear. This defines the light, removable part of the project: the furniture.
The word furniture comes from the latin word mobilis, meaning that which can be transported. Roman law already defined goods in two main categories: movable (tools, clothing, furniture, instruments, etc.) and non-movable (land, constructions, etc.). Based on this distinction appears the maxim Res mobilis, res vilis, in english something similar to the movable thing is a useless thing. NN06 targets this useless aspect, to become a set of furniture and plug-ins focused on the potential activity of the house. A kind of support structures that enable the inhabitants to live in this space.
These objects are divided into two large families, distinguished by their materiality: wooden or metallic. The blue coated metal elements hang structurally from the walls, without touching the ground. The main element is a metal "T"-shaped bookshelf located in the center of the house, which is suspended a few cm above the ground, hanging between the load-bearing walls of the building. Apart from its function as a shelf, this element becomes a totem around which the different uses of the house are arranged. Formally it resembles the structural composition of the building, simulating an added structural element; a dysfunctional appendix. The rest of the metallic elements are a gate that separates a work space from the rest of the common space, a minibar, an interior shutter to isolate the kitchen and an exercise beam: plug-ins that allow the inhabitants to use the hard spaces in different ways.

The wooden elements, on the other hand, rest on the pre-existing floors, which were treated to loose their superficial coatings, recovering a raw, structural character. The most intimate areas of the house, bedrooms and living room, are equipped with plywood platforms, slightly elevated above the hard floors, supported on wooden slats, similar to a tatami or tablao. These elements can be easily removed when leaving the house, just like the rest of the interventions that conform the mobile heritage of the inhabitants. 
NN06 seeks to strengthen the value of the movable as opposed to the static assets; it seeks to reinforce the habitability of a space based on a constellation of support elements that assist its inhabitants in their daily activities.

NN06 es un conjunto de objetos e intervenciones para transformar una oficina en una vivienda.

Sin alterar la configuración previamente existente de una plana de oficinas situada en el norte de Madrid, se retiran los revestimientos superficiales de techos, suelos y muros para dejar una base cruda sobre la que actuar. Se define así la parte masiva, sólida del proyecto: lo inmobiliario. Por otra parte se desarrolla una estrategia de intervención a partir de piezas que buscan huecos para integrarse, que se cuelgan de lo muros de carga o que se apoyan sobre las superficies duras. Se define así la parte ligera, desmontable del proyecto: el mobiliario. 

La palabra mueble procede del término en latín mobilis, definiendo aquello que pudiera ser transportado. El derecho romano definía ya los bienes en dos grandes categorías: lo móvil (herramientas, vestimenta, mobiliario, utensilios, etc.) y lo inmóvil (tierras, construcciones etc.). En base a esta distinción aparece la máxima Res mobilis, res vilis, en castellano, la cosa movible es cosa inservible. NN06 se concentra en este aspecto inservible, para convertirse en un conjunto de muebles y plug-ins centrados en la vida interior de la vivienda. Una especie de estructuras de apoyo que posibilitan a los habitantes desarrollar su vida en este espacio.

Estos objetos se dividen en dos grandes familias, distinguidas por su materialidad: madera y metal. Los elementos metálicos, lacados en color azul, se cuelgan estructuralmente de los muros, sin tocar el suelo. El elemento principal es una estantería metálica ubicada en el centro de la casa, que queda suspendida a pocos centímetros del suelo, colgada de los muros de carga del edificio. Al margen de su condición de estantería, este elemento se configura como tótem en torno al que se distribuyen los usos de la vivienda. Formalmente replica la composición de huecos de los muros de carga del edificio, simulando ser un elemento estructural añadido; un apéndice disfuncional. Además de este elemento se suman un portón para independizar un espacio de trabajo del resto de espacios comunes, un minibar o una barra de ejercicios a la colección de objetos de la casa. Plug-ins que permiten usar los espacios duros de distintas formas.

Los elementos de madera, por contraposición, se apoyan sobre los suelos existentes. Tras retirar los revestimientos superficiales que había sobre los suelos, se decidió sanear la solera de hormigón del edificio con un mortero autonivelante, recuperando nuevamente el carácter crudo de los elementos preexistentes. Para acondicionar las zonas más íntimas de la vivienda, dormitorios y salón, se incluyeron unas plataformas de madera contrachapada, ligeramente elevadas sobre los suelos duros, de forma similar a un tatami o a un tablao. Estos elementos pueden ser fácilmente retirados al abandonar la casa, al igual que el resto de intervenciones en el patrimonio móvil de los habitantes. 

NN06 busca profundizar en el valor mobilis en contraposición a los principios de valor estático, inmobiliario; busca reforzar la habitabilidad de un espacio a partir de una constelación de elementos de apoyo que posibilitan la actividad de sus habitantes.
