Urban Tropical Living
Singapore / Singapore / 2022
The aim of this project is to grey the boundary between outdoors and indoors. We achieved it by creating transition of space using skylight, breeze blocks and water body. The result: creating a tropical resort living space space in an urban city.
A 6m tall trellis wall segregates the living room from the kitchen. It provides privacy to the dining space and bedrooms on the upper floor. In addition, the gaps on feature wall create an artistic display of light and shadow into the atrium at different times of the day.
As the owners spend a lot of time gardening and working from home, the house is crafted for nature, luxury and functionality. Using Biophillic design concept, the design team aims to connect the house occupants to the nature.
With innovative use of breeze blocks and glass doors, the design team from AR-kee Design Studio has intentionally designed the ground floor of the house to promote sustainable living by increasing airflow from outdoors into the house.
Timber decked terrace harmoniously connects the indoor and outdoor area. This expands the gardening area so the owners have more space for their collection of plants. In addition, the occupants would be able to work in a relaxing space within their house.
