The Palacete Burgos, also known as Casa del Médico (the Doctor’s House), is one of the most emblematic buildings that the architect Javier Goerlich Lleó designed in the city of Valencia.

It is a building of historicist and romantic style, adapted to the taste of Valencian bourgeoisie of the first decades of the twentieth century. The works were completed in 1922.

The building consists of four floors. The main roof is flat and is resolved by a large terrace from which emerge in two corners of its main facade a lookout tower of hexagonal plan and pointed roof covered with golden shingles with scale shape, and a square plant volume with a hipped roof covered with green roof tiles.

The entrance hall of the main entrance, richly decorated, is a double height space and vaulted ceiling wich organizes the floor with a wide staircase on one of the side facades and wooden viewpoints on the other. On the back façade there is a glazed wooden gallery, supported by columns of cast iron, generating a small porch on the ground floor.

The main objective of the rehabilitation of Palacete Burgos has been to give a satisfactory response to the will of a family to convert one of the most iconic buildings in the city of Valencia into their private home, and all this without transforming its character and also recovering some of its historical and artistic values that had been lost in reforms carried out in recent decades.

The elimination of improper elements and additions and the recovery of other very degraded and even disappeared, allowed us to discover many aspects of the original building designed by the architect Javier Goerlich: the chromatic richness of its exterior, the spectacular Nolla mosaic floors, the double-height spaces, the magnificent decorated ceilings of some of its rooms, etc. and demonstrate that the conservation of these elements is compatible with the needs and demands of the new owners to inhabit a historic building without renouncing the needs of comfort and habitability of a current home.
