It interests us the thought inherent to the adaptation of new ways of living when drawing habitational architecture, as a way of understanding the evolution of cities. In an initial plan, the goal was to increase the housing capacity in the city of Guimarães, from a perspective of development the drawing on the human living in an urban context, studying new ways of living based on the daily experiences.

                Towards a terrain with a ‘strong personality’, with very own characteristics, which should be promoted along with the proposed architectonic piece, in its process, we chose to develop a building with contemporary language and simple shapes, reducing its image to the essential. The architectonic piece is born as a monolithic section, marked by the horizontal slabs of the structure, revealing the exterior walls that are coated by a ‘skin’ composed of lacquered glass panels, which allows the building to take advantage of the reflex and the ‘appropriation’ of its own skin. This skin is ripped in the areas destined for the exterior spaces, where the slatted wood is the predominant material, involving the whole space.

                For the organization of the different typologies, we looked for a clear development from the interior until the exterior, with clarity in the succession of the spaces that emerge naturally, sequentially adapting the program. It established a continuous dialog between individual/house and individual/individual, eliminating the architectonical and space barriers, leaving the space to flow in a natural way, focusing the spatiality on the common spaces and daily living.

We aim to create a habitational unit with a defined identity, with its own characteristics, space and dialog, an intervention that claims its right and affirms itself, but that integrates, not as a ‘fracture’, but as a complement.

Interessa-nos o pensamento inerente à adaptação dos novos modos de habitar no desenho de arquitetura habitacional, de forma a compreender a evolução das cidades.  O objetivo passou por potenciar e aumentar a capacidade de habitação na cidade de Guimarães, numa perspetiva de desenvolvimento do desenho da vivência humana em contexto urbano, estudando novas formas de habitar de acordo com as experiências do dia-a-dia.

Perante um terreno com uma ‘forte personalidade’, dotado de características muito próprias, que devem ser promovidas em conjunto com a peça arquitetónica proposta, no seu processo, optou-se por desenvolver um edifício com uma linguagem contemporânea, formas de simples leitura, reduzindo assim a sua imagem ao essencial. O objeto arquitetónico “nasce” como uma peça monolítica pautada pelas lajes horizontais da estrutura, revelando as paredes exteriores que se revestem de uma “pele” composta por painéis de vidro lacado, que permitem ao edifício tirar partido do reflexo e da “apropriação” da envolvente na sua própria pele. Esta pele é “rasgada” nas zonas destinadas a espaços exteriores, onde o ripado de madeira é o material predominante, envolvendo todo o espaço.

Para a organização das diferentes tipologias procurou-se um desenvolvimento claro desde o seu interior até ao seu exterior, com clareza na sucessão dos espaços que surgem naturalmente adaptando o programa de uma forma sequencial. Estabelece-se um diálogo contínuo entre indivíduo/casa e indivíduo/indivíduo, eliminando as barreiras arquitetónicas e espaciais, deixando o espaço fluir de forma natural, centrando a espacialidade nos espaços de estar e de vivência diária. 

A intenção é criar uma unidade habitacional com uma identidade definida, com as suas características e o seu próprio espaço e diálogo, uma intervenção que reclame o seu direito, se afirme, mas que se integre, não como uma “fratura”, mas como complemento.
