_Flying Memory_ arises from the intention to rehabilitate an existing residential building in the city center of Braga, Portugal. The scope of the project focuses on including the architecture of the existing building on the site in harmony with the surroundings without prejudice to the original architectural feature that defines the profile of the street. The project aims at an architectural language of articulation of the street skyline with the objective to innovate by presenting an irreverent architecture in the volumes to be enlarged to the existing building. These volumes appropriate the form and give it a dynamism and fluidity to the architectural design that demarcates the uniqueness of the building at the same time that relates to its surroundings. Materiality is maintained in the rehabilitated and recovered elements of the building. The new volumes that correspond to the areas to be enlarged are distinguished by the materiality of the stapled zinc on the façade facing the patio and by the glazed panels that provide great natural light to the interior social spaces. In the relationship with the surroundings defined by the street profile, the main façade to be extended on the top floor keeps the same materiality of the donkey brick but with an architectural fluidity projected towards the limits of the construction evoking a contemporary formal dynamism. The programmatic constitution of the building is defined by a first floor dedicated to commerce, and three residential floors consisting of two floors with a 3 and a 1 bedroom apartment and the last floor with two 2 bedroom apartments. The interior gardened patio serves the apartments on the first floor, while the apartments on the other floors are served by balconies overlooking the patio and, in the case of the last floor, also with balconies on the side of the main facade.
