There is something profound in the concept of home. It is a place that was born as protection. Physical but also intellectual protection.
In a world that is changing faster and faster and with the climatic challenges that we are forced to face, the issue of protection is addressed in this project.
The house is almost completely underground and to access it you have to go down through a staircase that leads to a square entrance, where a grate is placed on the floor, which is essential for conveying rainwater and letting it flow out. The interior spaces are placed in a circular manner: the kitchen; the bedroom; the study; the bathroom and the closet.
The light is zenith, but one is not closed inside with no way out. A private garden opens in front of the large windows facing south.
The house continues upstairs, where the living area is located.
Here the load-bearing structure itself becomes the compositional form of the house: a whirling spiral that wants to be born from the ground and grow towards the sky.
The splendid view of the Gorizia hills is given by the entire glass facade located to the east.

The curvilinear shape of the concrete roof recalls the surrounding hills and wants to force the idea of integration until it almost reaches a state of mimesis. An incomplete, deliberately rough camouflage, which through the use of exposed concrete underlines the concept of “protection”.

A state of tension is reached between the “inside” and the “outside” through the connection between the two different covers. There the opposition of forms and intentions, that each of us has taken place, are shown.

This is a project of opposites, of wood and stone, above and below, inside and out.
Elements that try to unite, to coexist at the same time.
It is a house in which the shape determines the space and the intentions of those who live in it and thanks to its shape it means “to be”.
