TIME

HOUSE No.1 is the transformation, refurbishment and adaptation of the interior, exterior and in-between spaces of a dark and compartmentalised 1978 house. The new configuration responds to the needs of its users, who were looking for a space to live, work, play sports and enjoy both as a family and individually. In the proposal neutral spaces are used to adapt to genealogical changes and their spatial consequences. The house, with 3 floors + attic, fits a rectangle of 16m x 9m, which is distorted by patios, terraces and balconies. Each level is divided longitudinally into two bays of 3.5m and 5.5m, with a difference in height of 86cm. The goal is to transform a highly compartmentalised and dark space into an open and light-filled space, where the staircase, which was a spatial and lighting obstacle, becomes an essential heterogeneous space.

SPACE 

In the short axis, the typical partition walls to separate the 86cm difference in height are replaced by "L" shaped elements, that act as an extension of the staircase itself, and level the height difference. At the same time, these elements contain the structure, the storage systems and create interior windows, which in turn allow privacy regulation between spaces, becoming scenographies where users are both protagonists and spectators. In the long axis, the proposal connects both facades, laying out the uses in sequence, improving ventilation and simplifying horizontal communication, while unfolding as a 16-meter-long continuous piece of furniture that is a domestic infrastructure: containing storage, art-display, facilities/fixtures and furnishing. The 86cm intra-level separation highlights the movement and "public" use of the staircase, and becomes a useful space: steps, shelves, benches, etc... In parallel, the user can move vertically in a more "private" way by means of the hidden lift, thus guaranteeing accessibility on all levels.

MATTER

The aim is to give the new spaces as much light, clarity and neutrality as possible. Materials are chosen to multiply, filter and regulate the warmth of light. Thus, framing a neutral canvas, which the inhabitants and their objects fill with colour. The staircase, the heart of the dwelling and the backbone of the spaces, is configured with solid steps made of campaspero stone that contrasts with the light brass handrail. This handrail is the result of a geometric study and reinterpretation of the existing handrails on the outside of the dwelling and in other modern and post-modern architecture in the surrounding neighbourhoods. The floorplan, as an extension of the staircase, is built entirely with the same materials, albeit with 4 different layouts, giving it dynamism, texture and ease of execution.

ENERGY

Five strategies are implemented to minimise energy consumption:

1. Optimisation of space and distribution of uses to generate cross ventilation on all levels.

2. Insulation of the building skin from the inside, and from the outside by dismantling interstitial insulation and restoring the slate roof, thus keeping the original exterior appearance intact.

3. Mixed wood-aluminium exterior frames with double glazing allowing passiv-haus thermal inertia.

4. Optimisation of the air-conditioning systems of the house with an aerothermal system with heat recovery, supported with solar thermal panels for the production and total demand of hot water, integrated in the slate roof. The house is climatized by underfloor heating/cooling with anhydrite support, reducing thermal inertia.

5. External solar protection with adjustable slatted blinds.

CASA No.1 es la transformación, rehabilitación y adaptación de los espacios interiores, exteriores e intermedios de una oscura y compartimentada vivienda de 1978. La nueva configuración responde a las necesidades de sus usuarios, que buscaban un espacio para vivir, trabajar, hacer deporte y disfrutar en familia e individualmente. Se plantean espacios neutros que permitan adaptarse a los cambios genealógicos y sus consecuencias espaciales.

La vivienda, de 3 alturas + ático, se presenta en un rectángulo de 16m x 9m, que es recortado por patios, terrazas y balcones. Cada nivel se divide en sentido longitudinal en dos crujías de 3,5 m y 5,5m separadas verticalmente 86cm. Se propone la transformación de un espacio altamente compartimentado y oscuro, en un espacio abierto e iluminado, donde la escalera, que suponía un obstáculo espacial y lumínico, se convierte en un espacio heterogéneo esencial.

ESPACIO 

En sentido transversal, la tabiquería habitual para separar el desnivel de 86cm se sustituye por muebles en “L”, como extensión de la escalera, que ponen de acuerdo ambas cotas, albergando estructura, almacenamiento y construyendo ventanas interiores, que permiten regular la privacidad entre espacios, convirtiéndolos en escenografías, donde los usuarios son a la vez protagonistas y espectadores. En el sentido longitudinal la propuesta conecta ambas fachadas organizando los usos en secuencia, mejorado la ventilación, y simplificando la comunicación horizontal, desplegando además unos muebles corridos de 16m que actúan como una infraestructura domestica: Almacenamiento, exposición, soporte de instalaciones y mobiliario. La separación de 86cm intra-nivel pone de manifiesto el movimiento y uso “público” de la escalera, convirtiéndose en espacios útiles: gradas, estanterías, bancos, etc… Paralelamente el usuario puede desplazarse de forma más “privada” mediante el ascensor oculto, garantizando así la accesibilidad en todos sus niveles.

MATERIA

Se busca otorgar a los nuevos espacios de la mayor iluminación, claridad y neutralidad posible. Los materiales se eligen para multiplicar, filtrar y regular la calidez de la luz. Enmarcando así un lienzo neutro donde son los habitantes y sus objetos los que lo llenan de color. La escalera, corazón de la vivienda y vertebrador de espacios, se configura con peldaños macizos de piedra campaspero en contraste con una barandilla ligera de latón, resultado del estudio geométrico y reinterpretación de las barandillas existentes en el exterior de la vivienda y en otras arquitecturas modernas y pos-modernas. de los barrios circundantes. El plano del suelo, como extensión de la escalera, se resuelve con el mismo material y diversos despieces, otorgándole dinamismo, textura y facilidad de ejecución.

ENERGIA

Se combinan 5 estrategias para reducir al mínimo el consumo energético:

1. Optimización del espacio y distribución de los programas para generar ventilación cruzada en todos los niveles.

2. Aislamiento de la envolvente desde el interior, y desde el exterior mediante el desmontaje, aislamiento intersticial y restauración de la cubierta de pizarra, manteniendo así el aspecto original exterior intacto. 

3. Carpinterías exteriores mixtas de madera-aluminio con doble acristalamiento permitiendo obtener inercias térmicas passiv-haus.

4. Optimización de los sistemas de climatización de la vivienda mediante un sistema de aerotermia con recuperadora de calor, y apoyo de paneles solares térmicos para la producción y demanda total de ACS, integrados en la cubierta de pizarra. La vivienda se climatiza mediante suelo radiante/refrescante con soporte de anhidrita, permitiendo reducir las inercias térmicas.

5. Protección solar exterior mediante persianas de lamas orientables.
