Envisioned for a growing family, the house proposes a form of dwelling organized around a continuous dialogue with the landscape in which it is located. The dark exterior grants it a solid stature, while simultaneously evoking the possibility of a home carved in the interior of a rock formation. Certain formal gestures complement this suggestion, like the sectioning of the house’s volumes that hints at the form of a crack, or the windows that appear sporadically, yet with a balanced rhythm, in different parts of the wall. Furthermore, the tour inside proposes a game of changing lights and shadows, with paths that open and close, tighten and widen, and flow into open spaces that secure both fresh air and privacy. 

Terraces and windows allow for an evolving conversation with the ample vegetation that surrounds the grounds. In the house’s ecosystem, plants become protagonists, establishing a symbiotic relationship similar to the one mutually agreed upon between the moss or the amate tree with the rock. Inside, the differently sized and shaped windows become openings that frame natural elements, invite the viewer to contemplate the green color, and shed light to all life spaces. At the same time, these windows confuse the threshold that separates interior and exterior, generating an expanding sensation. Outside, once that the viewer overcomes the plants that surround and hide the building like a lost treasure trove at the bottom of a trunk, windows offer fleeting glimpses of life, if only a bunch of suggestions of what happens there every day. At night, the black house disappears into the darkness. What remains are small gaps of light revealing a series of quotidian pictures. 

If, seen from the outside, the walls’ rocky tone and the foliage’s green stand out, inside it is wood which acquires an important character. It shows up in beams, in bookshelves, in closets, or in the furniture where the home’s day to day will develop: the chair, the table, the bed, the door. Besides warming up the place, the use of wood establishes yet another conversation with the landscape. Pine tree suggests once more that it is the land who should offer the key to a durable dwelling anchored in the territory. Its lightened tone joins the exterior’s black, the vegetation’s green, and the frames’ red as the most visible colors. The discrete presence of the last of them, the red, offers a striking contrast not unlike that of a flower, in an attempt to find a balanced color palette capable of melting with its surroundings. 

The place proposes an idea of dwelling founded upon the characteristics, conditions, and resources of the territory. Similarly, architecture is thought of here in such a way that it can allow for time to do its work over the constructed area: plants will grow, walls will become humid and mossy, the volume will identify more and more with its landscape. It lays down a philosophy of construction in which the work does not conclude (it only begins) at the point in which the house begins to live.

Pensada para una familia en crecimiento, la casa propone una forma de habitar que parte de un diálogo continuo con el paisaje en el que se emplaza. Su oscuro exterior le otorga solidez, al tiempo que evoca la posibilidad de una formación esculpida para albergar un hogar en su interior. Algunos gestos formales complementan esta sugerencia, como las entrecalles que seccionan el volumen a modo de grietas o las ventanas que aparecen esporádicamente, con un ritmo balanceado, en distintos puntos de los muros. Asimismo, su recorrido propone un juego cambiante de luz y sombra al entretejer caminos que se cierran, se abren, se angostan o se ensanchan y terminan por desembocar en espacios abiertos que garantizan tanto aire libre como privacidad.

Terrazas y ventanas son las que permiten, a su vez, establecer una conversación permanente y cambiante con la frondosa vegetación que rodea el terreno. En el ecosistema de la arquitectura, las plantas cobran un rol protagonista, estableciendo una relación simbiótica similar a la que el musgo o el amate acuerdan con la roca. Desde adentro, las ventanas –que adoptan distintas formas y tamaños– se convierten en aperturas que enmarcan elementos naturales, invitan a mirar el color verde y bañan de luz los espacios de vida. Al mismo tiempo, estas ventanas confunden el umbral que separa interior y exterior, generando en cambio una sensación de amplitud expandida. Desde afuera, una vez rebasadas las plantas que rodean y esconden la construcción como a un valioso objeto olvidado al fondo del baúl, las ventanas ofrecen vistazos fugaces de la vida, apenas un puñado de sugerencias de lo que transcurre a diario. De noche, la casa se pierde en la oscuridad. Lo que queda son pequeños huecos de luz alumbrando un conjunto de cuadros cotidianos.

Si, visto desde afuera, lo que domina es el tono rocoso de los muros, así como el verde de la vegetación, dentro, la madera cobra un rol esencial. Aparece en vigas, en libreros y closets o en los muebles en donde se desarrollará el día a día del hogar: la silla, la mesa, la cama, la puerta. Además de generar calidez al interior, el uso de la madera establece una conversación más con el paisaje. El pino vuelve a sugerir que es éste quien dicta las claves mismas para un habitar duradero capaz de anclarse en su territorio. Su tonalidad clara se une al negro del exterior, al verde de las plantas y al rojo de los marcos como los colores más visibles. La presencia módica del último de ellos, el rojo, contrasta llamativamente con los otros tres, como una flor, buscando que la paleta articule un conjunto equilibrado capaz de mimetizarse con su alrededor.

En este sentido, se propone una idea del habitar cimentada en las características, condiciones y recursos del territorio. Asimismo, la arquitectura está pensada para que el tiempo haga su trabajo sobre lo construido: que las plantas crezcan, que los muros humedezcan, que el volumen se identifique cada vez más con su alrededor. Establece una filosofía del construir en donde la obra no concluye (apenas comienza) en el punto en el que la casa empieza a vivir.
