The greatest challenge of the project development, was the guiding intent to respect and recover the ancient memory of the site, reconciling it with the intervention we were to carry out.
On the site existed a 16th century construction that had been adulterated by successive additions, made throughout the 20th century, without any architectural or historical significance. In consequence, the first gesture was to identify and recover the original traces of this construction.

Secondly, conditioned by the intent to respect the primitive construction, the insertion of the necessary functional program would have to be made in newly constructed volumes, releasing the historical heritage of the site.

Therefore, the final composition resulted in the articulation of three distinct volumes:
The original construction, maintaining its image and materiality through the recovery of the stone walls and its decorative elements. The singularity of this construction and its implantation on the site, was used to emphasize the main entrance;
A prominent contemporary volume, where a new set of bedrooms was developed on the upper floor, sought to establish a strong relationship with the primitive construction by respecting its dimensions, not exceeding it volumetrically, as well as through its relative placement, aligned, near, but not overlapping the latter, and lastly, by recovering the language of the traditional threshing houses in the area, with a similar façade composition, where once there was a cereal drying threshing floor;

The third volume seeks to establish the volumetric connection to the south, in a contained way, allowing the comprehension of this architectural set, integrating the new and the old.
Functionally, we sought to design a fluid space, that would be easy to perceive, but unique and adapted to its habitational purpose. With this intent in mind, the differentiation between spaces was marked through different floor and ceilings heights, as well as through the introduction of patios and moments of zenithal light.

The intent to obtain a fluid space dictated the structural solution that is embedded in the architecture, which consists of three large beams that run the entire length of the south volume. This solution allows the non-existence of pillars in all spaces, materializing the desired experience.

El gran desafío del proceso de diseño de esta intervención fue respetar y recuperar la memoria ancestral del lugar, armonizándola con el programa y la intervención que ahora se proponía realizar.
En el solar se encontraba una construcción que databa parcialmente del siglo XVI, muy alterada a lo largo del siglo XX por adiciones sin calidad arquitectónica ni histórica, por lo que el primer gesto fue identificar y recuperar las huellas originales de la construcción. En el momento de la intervención, se tomó la decisión de liberar el patrimonio histórico, respetando su composición más primitiva, que condicionó naturalmente su nuevo uso, aportando a la nueva construcción gran parte del programa funcional necesario.

La composición del nuevo conjunto incluyó así tres volúmenes de forma distinta:
La construcción original, manteniendo su imagen y materialidad mediante la recuperación de los muros de piedra y elementos decorativos. Esta singularidad y la implantación en la topografía del lugar, sirvió para mantener la entrada principal de la casa donde siempre se ha ubicado;

Un prominente volumen contemporáneo, donde se desarrolló un nuevo conjunto de dormitorios en la planta superior, buscaba establecer una fuerte relación con la construcción primitiva respetando sus dimensiones, no excediéndola volumétricamente, así como a través de su ubicación relativa, alineados, cercanos, pero sin superponerse a este último, y por último, recuperando el lenguaje de las trilladoras tradicionales de la zona, con una composición de fachada similar, donde antes había una era de secado de cereales;
El tercer volume, también parte de esta nueva intervención, busca realizar, de forma más contenida, la conexión volumétrica hacia el sur, permitiendo seguir entendiendo la particularidad de este conjunto, mostrando lo nuevo y lo antiguo.

Funcionalmente, buscamos diseñar un espacio fluido, que fuera fácil de percibir, pero único y adaptado a su finalidad habitacional. Con esta intención en mente, la diferenciación entre espacios se marcó a través de diferentes alturas de pisos y techos, así como a través de la introducción de patios y momentos de luz cenital.
Este objetivo también terminó dictando la solución estructural que se incrusta en la arquitectura, consistente en tres grandes vigas que recorren toda la longitud del volumen sur, y que permiten la inexistencia de pilares en todos los espacios, materializando la experiencia deseada.
