Traditional cafe in Skyros | Met Studio Architects
Skýros / Greece / 2018
This was a proposal for a cafe in Skyros, Greece. The concept was to highlight the traditional style of the island and the folklore element of their production. Therefore, we used a 3 materials system to build our idea: wood, marble and woven textiles.
Wooden carpentry for the huge bar that was going to be dominant when entering the cafe. Also, for a large library that was going to be a showcase for traditional products for clients to bye.
Pieces of marble for the floor. We would use remnants from the local marble industry to cover the floor, so that the final result would be like a yard or an alley.
The textile of the sofa and chairs would be woven locally with traditional textiles, giving the final touch of the tradition.
All the above of course would be combined together in a contemporary design with modern elements in the furniture or lighting equipment, pastel colors and fresh products to use with the latest trends in coffee shops.
