House of Madison is a multi-brand concept space dedicated to home furnishings and lifestyle brands including bulthaup, Rimadesio, Sub-Zero and Wolf. The studio was engaged to reimagine the new Hong Kong flagship with the vision of an interior program that explores the intersection of design, culture, and expressive living.

Envisaged as an existing shophouse, via. reinterpreted the brief with a unique residential flair. To realize the narrative, the studio crafted a series of shifting interior scenes for the two-storey space, covering 5,200 sqft.

The main entrance opens into an interior courtyard on the lower floor, where shallow arch lines and imposing metal-clad columns form a first impression. The ground level, “The Gallery”, is an experimental platform designed to showcase a curation of lifestyle goods. Here, the pièce de résistance is “The Stairway”, a sculptural staircase built from beige limestone and hairline bronze balustrades. A grand landing and generous platforms allow the staircase to easily transform into a stage for discussions and public forums, with stepped seating for an audience. Ascending with “The Stairway” is a double-height arch that draws attention upwards, where a backdrop of red bricks alludes to the sense of time and architectural significance.

The upper level is an ode to sophisticated living. ‘Interactive’ and ‘private’ areas are differentiated with distinct aesthetic touches. The arch is used as a recurring motif to establish striking visual layers. Bronze mesh cladding adds a sense of curiosity, revealing and concealing the immersive activities up ahead. These include “The Kokoro Room” - an open bar and dining area executed in a contrast of dark and light timber notes, and “The Meraki Kitchen”. “The Lookout” is a sitting nook that boasts a view of the outdoor piazza.

The ‘private’ quarters exude a feeling of intimacy. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels and sliding screens separate two enclosed spaces, including a Rimadesio walk-in wardrobe “The Dressing Room”, and “Studio M”, a private dining room. “The Glass Lounge” features relaxed seating and sophisticated décor. There are subtle material transitions across these areas, which combine with diffused lights to give a tactile experience.

As with any fine home, the studio has assembled a stunning collection to furnish the space. Handcrafted furniture pieces from Wittmann, Viabizzuno lights and commissioned rugs all feature prominently alongside House of Madison’s signature brands inside the multilayered flagship.
