Floating Pavilion As A Medium Of Idea Of Solidarity

Gdańsk is a city, which expresses itself in a specific way by ideas of freedom and solidarity, because of the historical and cultural context. The way of how the society lives nowadays, is becoming similar to the events connected with the previous political system of Poland. The limitation of consciousness and self-autonomy of thinking not always visible, but seems to be analogical to these occurrences, particularly – by many - not wanted to be remembered. As far as the events are concerned, highly influential was the “Solidarność” movement, closely connected to the shipyard in Gdańsk.
In my diploma project, I decided to make a link to the “Way To Freedom”, which is planned to be built there, containing the European Solidarity Centre located at the beginning of this specific promenade to be done. As the idea of solidarity might be able to be paid attention on everywhere, where the designing floating building as a medium of idea of solidarity would moor.

Laboratory of Solidarity is an interdisciplinary institute, existing in a wider context as a scenography for social relations, actions and activities. It is a place, where issues respecting the residents of Gdańsk are possible to be raised. There is a space for uniting in the name of charity movements, getting to know representatives of different social groups for reciprocal understanding and in result – better functioning in relations within and between these groups.
It is a space of influence on working of organism, which the city is, paying attention to the character of individuals.
It is a place in which, there is possibility to take part in initiatives to improve living conditions in a simple way, with no special abilities or preparation needed.
At last – it is a place, which enables to concentrate on important issues that are easy to forget during still being fastened everyday life.
It is a space, where a human can exist for other human, saying implicitly: you are as important as I am here.
It is a monument to the ideas of solidarity and freedom.
