The 2019 Times of India Design Expo, one of the largest art and architecture festivals of the country, saw SHROFFLEóN as one of the collaborators involved in designing the exhibition pavilions.

Produced for the Sound Smiths, a company specializing in home theatre systems, the exhibit isenvisioned as a light, buoyant structure, set against the density of the program area. The idea was to create a captivating exterior, that allows it to stand out in the minds of the visitors, ensuring the company’s product is not forgotten. On the inside, the exhibit is curated to resemble the appearance of a black box, in sync with the company’s products.

The material palette was restricted to neutral tones, with inexpensive materials being used in rather unconventional ways to create a visual that is highly engaging. The play of materials was intended such that internal spaces appear strong in form and identity. Crinkled foil, the primary material chosen for the project, adds a certain visual noise, that when overlaid with the subtlety of the fabric mesh and metal framework that commands the exterior, creates an extremely unique visual. The bright carpet juxtaposed against the metallic surfaces, completes the space.
