Russian Pavillion Project for Venice Biennale of Architecture 2020 Venice / Italy / 2020
Designing the project for Russia Pavillion at Venice Biennale of Architecture the architects would like to emphasize the fact that Russian pavilion is located in the specific context of Venice. The points were special questions which architects and designers tried to reflect in the conception. How does the space of pavillion interact with the city? Apart from serving biennale’s crowd can it serve Venetians on the daily basis opening Russia for them? What it means to showcase art? Should people pay for seeing masterpieces? Can nonprofessionals understand architecture and the bigger ideas behind it?
Answering all of them Blank Architects wanted to Open! the new way of seeing and new cooperation method that would be manifested in physical building as result and will leave life changing, long lasting experience in anybody involved.
The project was included in the TOP 10 finalists of the competition organized by the pavillion. Architectural idea of the Open! project means openness in all its manifestations. The architecture of the pavilion's open spaces emphasizes the importance of dialogue, accessibility, and art open to everyone.
