Pousada Convento Arraiolos | Pestana Hotel Group
Historic Hotel Evora / Portugal / 1995
It is known that the cornerstone laid for the convent's construction dates back to the reign of D. João III on 14 August 1527, the eve of the day of Our Lady of the Assumption, with the convent being dedicated to this same saint.
During the Middle Ages, the convent served to convert the local population to Christianity. With the restoration of the Pousada, austerity gave way to simplicity and comfort. Nowadays, it represents an example of the art of restoring historical buildings, which combines traditional heritage with modern architectural concepts.
