The Castle of Castelfranco Veneto, in the splendid Treviso territory, is a symbol of Giorgione’s birth city. A building which represents a treasure to be kept and preserved for the locals, it dates back to the XII century. The represents the original nucleus of the city and it is surrounded by a city wall, seven metres tall and about a kilometre long. The red colour of the bricks is striking, a reminder even today of the medieval period in which the castle was built to defend the territory against the attack of the neighbours in Verona. Whereas there were originally seven towers, today only six can be seen. Four of these are located on the tops of the square base and the southern tower, facing Padua, was subsequently transformed into the cathedral belfry.

RESTORATION AND RELAMPING TO PROVIDE NEW LIGHT FOR THE FORT

Linea Light Group, along with the Municipality of Castelfranco Veneto, designed the restoration of the castle lighting, restoring prestige and value to the fort, a symbol of the city. The two structures also came together to organise the “Le trame del Giorgione” show in 2018, the lighting for which was, in fact, provided by the company from Treviso as technical partner of the exhibit.
The goal of the project was to promote the relationship, creating new lighting suggestions for the entire municipality.

The goal of the Castle lighting restoration project is to replace old and energy intensive systems with optics that are far from the most innovative lighting systems. This led to the need to think of ad hoc solutions in order to meet the various lighting needs of the structure.

Two products were therefore selected:

1) Lighting the city wall in the northern area that overlooks Piazza Giorgione, we find the Vuelta_Y spotlight. With 30W at 2700K, the spotlight used to light the Castle wall has asymmetric wallwasher optics that allow the entire surface in all its height to be evenly emphasised.

2) Framing the entire Northwest tower, in collaboration with architect Pozzobon, the Archiline_Pro linear bar was selected. The product is sealed inside an aluminium case, designed to guarantee safety and above all to preserve and insulate the light fixture. The elliptical wallgrazing optics let you eliminate the problem of the proximity of the focus, uniformly lighting the surface, highlighting the shape and colour of the characteristic exposed bricks of the wall. Furthermore, the shadow effect that is created in the upper part of the tower, no less than 27 metres tall, emphasises the architecture, essential, but highly significant. The light play is a plus, managed using the DALI protocol: dynamic effects to highlight the historic qualities of the structure in a play of thrilling suggestions for the visitors.
