'Rocker Chair'

The design for this armchair, more specifically reading chair, is influenced by the ‘pop furniture’ movement from the 60’s-70’s and post-modern works from the ‘Memphis Group’.

The form of the chair was derived literally from the shape of a book, consisting of a timber book cover, foam pages and reading light headrest. The seat is able to recline on curved aluminium legs, which express the primary function of the piece.

The materials used reflect my preference for metals due to their versatility, finish and strength-to-weight ratio, while timber provides warmth to touch. The chair is able to be assembled from a small kit of parts and can be linked in a row or series, to be sued for instance in waiting areas.

The chair was displayed at ‘The Edge’ as part of the Australian International Furniture Fair in Sydney and also at ‘Fringe Furniture Festival’ at the Melbourne Museum.
