The Black & White House By Keren Niv Toledano

 Middle way, between Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv, a Banker and her Husband, former high rank officer in the IDF, parents to 4 lovely girls, renovated their private home.

The house was acquired just before they where sent to a long terms mission on the behalf of the IDF in the UK. Prior to their return they have decided to make a bold move and turn their house upside down.

 With limited time of 5 months they ripped the whole house, leaving only the shell. They changed infrastructure from scratch including indoor walls. Sophisticated updated systems where added and customized to the new structure.

 The view from the old house was indrawn and dark. The major change to the new rhythm is the natural light penetrating to the house by the wide opening of walls and windows. Choosing the "Black & White" color scheme created an enlightened space with an expanded ambience feeling.

 Initially, the clients requested classical color tinge; however, through the process, together with educated decisions we decided to change route to art-deco classic as the leading concept. Outstanding in every corner of the house the concept is significant with its specific and unique interpretation.   

Outstanding in center of the house are four columns, monumental and conspicuous, covered with clay bricks from bottom to top. Adding an erected and extended lighting fixture in order to semblance a long and spanned space illusion, thus missing initially.

 Maximizing the unique space and in order to create functionality to the house, gallery floor is used as a office working corner. Each and every element in the home were tailor-made, beginning with the stone medallion below the island in the kitchen, built piece by piece, totally hand-made installation by masters.

Furthermore, Keren Niv-Toledano designed concept furniture such as the couch with additional pillows to follow as part of the conceptual lighting fixtures. The whole concept is now exhibited in one of the most prestigious lighting companies in Israel as unique branded collection.
