The project is situated alongside a long road in a bland, anonymous suburban part of town. This design for the new police headquarters is intended as a stimulus for a clear redefinition of the public domain.

Its compact footprint will ensure that a major portion of the plot is safeguarded, keeping all options open for future development. The positioning of this footprint creates a town square surrounded with a number of public functions, which generate an immediately recognisable identity for this location.

The building’s public agenda is linked with this square. The other, non-public, administrative and logistical functions are judiciously stacked and partially sunk, ensuring that the building’s restrained volume fits into its surroundings, which are partially residential.

Clustering several sub-programs allows for separate circulation flows and ensures that the building is and remains clearly intelligible. Surprising perspectives actively contribute to a contemporary feel that radiates neutrality and a welcoming openness.
