DESCRIPTION: The Notice of Competition provided the design for the redevelopment of Maspes-Vigorelli Velodrome, a sports complex now hardly used, but part of the sports and architectural memory of Milan in the early years of the twentieth century.
The project idea was to create an Urban Sports Center that integrates in a single pole various sports and other related activities: sports medicine, injury prevention, nutrition and personal care products, fitness/wellness, accommodation for athletes and commercial activities related to the sport and the care of the diet. The shape of the Velodrome, its proportions, the structural dynamics, the sinuous and elegant lines that characterize it, impose its preservation.
The principle is to "freeze" the whole building as it formally stands today and coat it with a sort of shell that complements and expands its functions.
